Until the early sixties I lived across the railway track from Drake Barracks. I'd catch the bus to school from opposite the main gate. I think  at about 8am the RM Band would lead a Bluejacket Guard with fixed bayonets along the top road of the barracks then turn right down the main drag. Much older and wiser(?) I assume it was CinC Plymouth Band parading for Colours. Was it a daily duty until the band's withdrawal to Raleigh as FOP Band and what form did it take if the band was 'on the road' somewhere?

Hello Brian, nice to see your post.

I don't believe that Guard would have fixed bayonets for Colours! Maybe they were rehearsing for a ceremonial event?

There were a few former members of Drake band when I first arrived in RMB Storehouse in early 1972. Sadly a lot of them are no longer with us, but if I can remember who they are/were? I will endeavour to ask?

That is if I can contact them?
