Hi Glyn
nice to hear from you after all this time. I remember the NATO base in Oslo having it's SNCO's mess ball with a COD display around 1975. After the display and in loose order, they made the mistake of inviting us all to the ball. There was a live band playing on stage with the lead vocalist leaning forward giving it his all into the Microphone. Dave Smith was stood inches in front of him face to face, and Having consumed large quantities of Whisky, decided to take a deep breath and breathe into the vocalists face. Not only did it affect his singing, but the singer looked like he'd been hit in the face with with a base drum stick. It was also the same gig wherby a certain Bugler whilst engaged in certain activities with a lady said to her " mind me toecaps".

Arbroath, 1971/72.. Only the rear party of Jolly, advanced party of 45Cdo. and the Band in the whole of Condor. The most peaceful setting you could imagine in any barracks.. Dave Smith and I were in the NAFFI Bar Sunday afternoon, and Dave managed to pick a scrap with the biggest Bootneck in the Camp. Dave, never one to back away, went outside for a 1- to -1, and returned with a severe "2nd prize" face. He walked straight up to the bar and said to me: "Right that's him F***in sorted out, you're round."..

He was blinkin huge. But the bootneck was bigger, AND more sober. Dave was the type who could throw on a an old jumper and still look immaculate. Never a dull moment when he was around. He must have had one the most quiet but powerful senses of humour I've come across..I'll find him...

I remember joining CTC from training Jan 1974 just after Tony 'titch' Denley left.
( Now there was a character). I've heard many a great dit about him, but as time marches on the ol' memory banks begin to empty. I hope someone who served with him can highlight some of his memorable escapades.

The thing is Bri - as so many of the old bugg*** who read these dits are getting a bit senile - I thought it would make things easier for them.
