Hi Royal Marines,

I`m Karin from Germany and I play tenor drum in two pipebands. With one band, the Crossed Swords, played last year with the Massed Band at the Tattoo in Edinburgh.
My other Pipeband is a nice little band in the Black Forrest in Southern Germany, the Caverhill Guardians (www.caverhill-guardians.de).

My home band, the »Caverhill Guardians«, is celebrating in this year its 25th jubilee
Because of that, we`re looking forward to have a Tattoo in July14th, the
»Hardt Tattoo«. I think, it become the most small Tattoos in the world, but I`m sure, it will be nice. 130 Piper and drummer will come and 130 people with the Brassbands.

There are a lot of preparations for a little band and we work hard, but its also fun.
But now, we have a problem with the brass music. Our Pipemajor gave us a very nice repertoire, that’s fine. But in the final, we are going to play the »Gael« like it were performed in Edinburgh in 2008.

We have the Scores for the pipes, and for the drums as well, that’s not the
problem. The big big problem for us is, we need the notations for the brass bands.
Well, we found in the internet a lot of notations from the Gael to buy, but we are not sure. Do the scores really fit to the sound of the bagpipes?

A friend told me, you could help us, to find the right notations.

Sorry for my bad english.

Sincerely, Karin

Karin,

Many thanks for your post. The music for The Gael that was used on the 1997 Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo was arranged 'in house' for the Royal Marines and as such is not for sale. The arranger - the former Staff Arranger to the Royal Marines - Michael Mac McDermott may be able to help you out further.

Fantastic, many thanks, General Melchett, for your very quickly answer.
Do you know, there I can find the contact to Michael Mac McDermott?

Can someone on 'our side', give Mac a nudge and ask him to reply to this person, as time is running out......
