When the famous ex Royal Marine officer Prince Edward was born I was serving at HMS Pembroke.
After 'Splice the Mainbrace' most of the lads went ashore to celebrate. Tony 'Sticky Blue' Rose went with (but I don't mean 'went with') a matelot, both in rig.
At some point in the celebrations they decided to swap uniforms.
When they eventually tried to come onboard again, still wearing each others ill fitting uniform, they were arrested for being improperly dressed.
I think the fact that the matelot was six feet twelve, Tony a mere four feet six and a dogend gave them away! |
