i have just recieved a form to fill in about work experience with the royal marines band. the only problem is that it doesn't tell you what you will do and where it is etc.

Can anyone tell me more about the work experience?

You will most probably spend a day or three with a RM Band, looking at the general day to day working routines etc, rehearsing and maybe even play at a gig (if you are lucky enough - I have sen work experience youngsters play with the bands from time to time). You will be sent to the closest band to where you live, as you will not be able to be accommodated on a camp.

Everyone I have seen on work experience has had a good time and learnt a lot about the bands.

Good luck, and enjoy.

Now fill in the form and get it sent off (shy bairns get nowt!)

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

My daughter did work her work experience ,or careers aquaint visit,  with the Portsmouth Band last July. She had a most enjoyable and insrtuctional time. One word of caution, choose the timing of your cav. She went at was  a very busy time for the band which co-incided with a Meet The Navy weekend. Perhaps it may be wise to look at going in the winter or spring. Having said that it really whetted her appetite and gave her good idea of what to expect from being a musician in the RMBS. It remains an option for her at the moment.

probably not too much point gong in June, HG09 is on around that time and you won't get much out of it, just the chance to watch massed bands rehearsing.

I would try, as has already been said, for some time in the Autumn/Winter, you will have a much better chance of 'working with' the band

Are you able to choose the dates then? The form I got said that the next career visit or whatever it was called would be the 24th - 27th june so I assumed thats when I would be doing it.
