I had a 'mini-reunion' this morning!
I popped into Deal for a few bits & bobs and within 30 minutes I saw:
Ken 'Ginge' Glentworth (Cornet/Violin?) Richard Baker (Euph/Cello) Tony Martin (Ex-DL/Singer) Ivor Crocker (Ex-Violin Prof) and John Perkins (Cornet/Violin/Baton)
Not necessarily in that order! _________________ Nill Illigitimi Carborundum |

Are the Silver Trumpets still playable?
I ask this in all sincerity as a non brass player. _________________ Still driving trains around in circles! (and a bit further now) |

I hope this may answer your question, Nick?
''The memorial, 14 silver trumpets, was paid for by the comrades of those who died and were in regular use at remembrance occasions until they were 'blown out'. Replacement trumpets are now used. The original banners were blue but the banners for the new fanfare trumpets are red. A War Memorial Charter strictly governs the way in which the Memorials are used, played and referred to. The 'Memorial Silver Trumpets of the Royal Marines School of Music' together with the Silver memorial Drums are now on display in the Royal Marines Museum, Eastney''
This is a link to where I found this item plus lots of other photos referring to AC Green and the RMBS & RNSM:

The Memorial Trumpets will be on Display in the Cathederal on Sunday complete with the original Blue Banners , well I hope they are they have been for the past few years. Just as an aside, I had the pleasure of playing one of the Bass ones several times at sometime in my time served, they were pitched in G not B flat so we had to transpose, learnt very quickly or you were out no three strikes, today I think the whole new set are in B flat???? _________________ Mr bass trombone |

The last time we bought any before I retired the Bass was still in G, there was also an Eb on top. The memorial trumpets had got to a very leaky stage and were BER so were laid up. _________________ Waving, not drowning |

| Does anyone know if there are any plans yet for the 20th anniversary of the Deal bombing or if there any plans for the RMBS memorial weekend to coincide with this anniversary? |

I think the answer could be a big No to both, whilst at Deal for this years concert I was told that there were no plans afoot for any different next year than in previous years, maybe things will change who knows, it would nice if something on a grander scale could be sorted for September. I did ask the outgoing PdM if we could include a moment at the Reunion for absent friends, and maybe it would be a fitting tribute as it is twenty years since the Deal attrocity if on the Sunday in the Cathederal if the names of the 11 who were taken from us could read from the book of rememberance. We shall have to wait and see. _________________ Mr bass trombone |
