Portsmouth NEWS, today. The Gosport Royal Marines Light Infantry Cadet Band will be disbanded and all the instruments and uniforms are to be auctioned off on Sunday 5th March 2006. The band have been running since 1979. Colour Sergeant Lee Cullen who was a member of the Band for 6 years said, "I was a member for just over six years and it inspired me to pursue a career in the Royal Marines Band Service". _________________ Wine is meant to be drunk............I am drunk.............Therefore am I wine??

just picked up this thread and want to clarify marine cadets.
marine cadets are usually part of a sea cadet unit...and are in many towns throughout the country.
The RMVCC the Royal Marine Volunteer Cadet Corps is a different organisation. these units were formed in Royal Marine Barracks and units were at Stonehouse, Eastney, Deal, CTCRM and Chatham. The Chatham unit suffered an horrific accident whilst marching one night in the 1950s when they were hit by a car and several kids were killed.. The RMVCC has provided many many kids for the Corps and certainly Buglers branch. They tended to be well supported and each unit had over a 100 kids on the books and parading twice a week. In the 50s and 60 in full blues. JNCOS were usually detailed to the units as instructors as were candidates.... volunteer or...365a will indicate it in a negative way!!!. The units seemed to have more cred than the sea cadets....
So different to marine cadets units... and entitled to be called Royal Marine Cadets...........any way happy belated birthday.

Why do you think that the RMVCC seam to have more cred than the Sea Cadets/Marine Cadets. Could it be the name?

I think because it has RM in the title... seems a little more official. Perhaps 'RN Cadets' rather than 'Sea Cadets' would have a little more of an 'official' sound to it. Sea cadets, Sea Scouts, boy scouts etc... sound a bit sameish _________________ http://www.royalmarinesbands.co.uk

My missus is a PO in the sea Cadets and they aren't actually funded in anyway by the RN. Unlike the Air training Corps and the Army Cadets, which probably explains the lack of RN in their name. _________________ "I'm not fat, this is a well exercised diaphragm!"
