Nice to see you last night Twinks. Next time please come along a bit earlier and hopefully we will be able to have a bit more of a chat (you noticed how busy we are!). Also, ask Dave Cole to bring his wallet with him so he can buy a CD
Best of luck and with Dave behind you I'm sure you are fully armed with the best advice possible. _________________ http://www.royalmarinesbands.co.uk

| I will definately get him to bring his wallet and dust the cobwebs off of it! Thank you for the CD and the literature it's all been so helpful as has everyone on here. I had a chat with Ian and I'm going to come down to Pompy and have a look around within the next couple of weeks hopefully. |

Hey guys, Hope all is okay.
Haven't managed to tie Ian down to some dates to come down yet but hopefully soon!
Was just wondering if any clarinettists on here had any advice on audition pieces? My tutor is an ex army boy so is only going on what he knows and we're in a disagreement about whether to go for something boring and traditional (like the Mozart / Weber) or go for something a little more funky (Hindemith etc).
He has also suggested that I give the interviewer the choice of what I play out of a selection on the day but sounds a little pretentious to me although I suppose it gives them the chance to turn down something that they may have heard a million times that day - what do you guys reckon? x |

Give them a choice if you want. If they don't want to make a choice they will bat it straight back to you with, "Play whichever you prefer or feel more confident with". _________________ http://www.royalmarinesbands.co.uk

My advice would be to play the one that you enjoy playing the most, whether it be the Mozart or the Weber, or indeed Hindemith. If you are happy with your performance, and confident, then play the piece that demonstrates that. What they will be looking for is how confident you are in what you play as well as style and expression. They might even have some sight reading for you which may further give them an indication of you technique/confidence. _________________ Wine is meant to be drunk............I am drunk.............Therefore am I wine??
