Hi Rab

Eventually turned my copy of the inspection pic and as you will see I was obscured from view by the aparently comatose Graham Ward - just to the right of Geoff McGarr and to the left of Paul Bowden (why was he called Paul when his initials were I.D.?

For the anoraks among you, this was the MGRM Annual Inspection - 3 March 1968. However, I won't tell you what he asked me - stick this in the caption contest if you wish.

Graham

MGRM?  So, why do we have a Pongo not a Bootie?

the pose maybe - but certainly not the figure.

Just for the record he asked me if I had learned how to fire a rifle and amazingly I answered "No sir, I'm a percussionist". I still wonder how I got away with that and I'll never forget the look on Major Campbell's face.

As for pongo he just smiled and asked if I was enjoying life in the Royal Marines - no smart ar$e answers this time - just a polite "Yes sir".
