Anyone here taken the BMus(Hons) degree?
What does it entail like in the non-practical sense? e.g. Is there any composition at all or essays? Also is there any improvisation required? |

You have to get through training first and that isn't the easy bit. Initial musical training is all part of the BMus / MMus path and I THINK it all counts toward those qualfications. I'll let Melch or someone else answer this as they know more about it than I do _________________ http://www.royalmarinesbands.co.uk

No Jim, you can't. You don't even know what's happening after Easter Leave......
Rachael,
The BMus is started by those who want to whilst at the School of Music. You would probably complete 2 years before joining a Band, where you will have the support of the Staff / Instructors at the RMSoM. After that, especially if you're in one of the outlying Bands you will have to help yourself a bit more. You will complete composition for one of the years and also have the ability to play for your final year. This is all provided free, unless you want out of the degree programme, in which case you will have to reimburse some fees. _________________ I feel the need - The need for Tweed! |

yeah, but they needed a (?)decent (?) fanfare team to do this gig. Deep fried mars bars all round, plenty of fights to be watched in the pubs, lovely 4* hotel (sauna, jacuzzi etc) and full subs|||| what more could you ask for? _________________ Cheers

But if you did a BMus civvy side you'd have to do some composition as well. There is a little bit of composition in the promotion courses (definately on the Bandmasters' course!) _________________ http://www.royalmarinesbands.co.uk

Having done a BA at Salford Uni prior to joining up I can safely say that most music courses require you to do some kind of composition at one point or another during the course. How much you do depends on what modules you take for what credits. If the course you take is structured that way!!! _________________ "I'm not fat, this is a well exercised diaphragm!"
