Yes you are correct, HMS Drake was RNB Devonport, RNAS Bramcote was HMS Gamecock at Nuneaton. HMS Thunderer did not happen until the late 70s (Bandmaster Michael "Zoonie" Howarth) The C in Cs Band (Mediterranean) from the flagship did occasionally live ashore at HMS Phoenicia(Manoel Island) between cruises ( I was there at times from 1947/50 and again from 1952/54) and in later years they lived ashore in HMS St Angelo in between cruises (Lt Wally Shillito) when Phoenicia closed down, just before the Malta Band was withdrawn.
Incidentally, When the Home Fleet band was split in two, Bill Greasely kept all the "good" hands and I had got all the reprobates - but what a great band! and what great runs ashore we had! Malmo, Ponta del Garda, and Lisbon in particular seemed to bring out the best in everyone! |

Dan
Was that Buglar 'Bernie' Winter and Musn 'Paul' Moody?
If so, I remember serving with them at Chatham in the '70s.

You must remember CSgt Phil Ripley, Bob? He was once the SNCO on the Ark Royal Band and as a Drum Major on a Carnival somewhere oop North, he wheeled around a roundabout with the D/M Staff holding onto the wrong end. He struggled a little bit with that... _________________ Wine is meant to be drunk............I am drunk.............Therefore am I wine??
