Please help. Why do drummers always bring their sticks up to their lips when drumming?

You want the true answer or the weird and wonderful ideas of us forumites Kim?
Somehow, I think you're gonna get both...
I'll start with this - it's not their lips they're bringing them up to, it's their noses. Some dip the stick-tips into Tiger Balm before they start a routine to keep themselves totally focussed, but there were many personal preferences, including cod, leather, beer and one bulger was even seen to be rubbing horse manure on his because it reminded him of the Royal Tournament.
It takes all sorts... _________________ One.

Bulgers (drummers) would only dare sneeze by numbers..
This is where the common tissue was given its name .
BULGERS.......ONE.!! AAAAAAAA
BULGERS.......TWO!! TISHHHHHHHHH
BULGERS.......THREE.!! SHOOOOOOOOOO.
There is also the myth that this practice was started by one Bulger who had an itchy nose while playing a static. Being such a sheepish breed of animal, they all eventually followed suit... _________________ 'Never moon a werewolf'. |

The real answer is that it imitates the arm swinging of the foot soldiers. As we have to drum whilst marching it is a bit like swinging our arms. In the drum statics it is for visual effect only _________________ http://www.royalmarinesbands.co.uk

Just as well they did'nt have those 'daggery things'.
Could have been some nasty accidents when they gabbed a spare,
to replace the ones that were dropped.

Apparently its a unique sound they have due to the drums having been fitted with greyhound skins!!! _________________ Visit The Hawthorns
