Thought it'd be more appealing for all you weird, non bass guitar geeks.

Here goes:

Jean Baudin & his 12 (count 'em!) string bass, the JP 12.

He's actually playing it in this picture!

Somehow I just can't call that a BASS Guitar. I mean yes, it will undoubtedly have the four usual Bass strings, but the extra eight? I reckon, not being an afficianado of the thing, that there will be four extra lower strings and perhaps four extra higher strings? Only a guess mind you, but I wonder how long it will be before we see Violins with six or eight strings on them, and then we can do away with the Violas. Hmmmmm that's quite a good idea actually.

Nah....The top one only has five strings which I believe some string basses had as standard. The second one is an electric Violin and not the Classical instrument I was meaning.

I'm in danger of being a pedant, but a five string VileDin is all you need to do away with violas!

Just got to train all violin players to read the Alto clef or learn to read millions(!) of ledger lines now though!!

Ah remember wonce..when ah were 'tlad.....

One string basses, and then all the rest started cheating...

I can see the benefits of an extra (or two max) upper strings on a bass, as it would make life much easier spending most of it in the first position (and half position of course)...Extra lower strings..?? Not for me...Half a dozen extra uppers..???..Wouldn't mind a go on one, but feel you're rather defeating the purpose of calling it a bass...

Isn't it nice to be talking about all things musical for a change..????

stand by..incoming
