A former bugler once told me a dit about Buddy Rich and his orchestra touring the UK during the late 70's or early 80's. He went on to tell me that some members of HM Royal Marines Bands went to see this gig and during the opening of the show, the orchestra would be playing and Buddy Rich would rise at the back of the stage on an elevator playing his drum kit only the way he could. However. He broke one of his wrists but instead of cancelling the tour, he continued playing as normal but one handed. Did anyone else hear this dit or even witness this wonderful drummer perform? _________________ Play up Pumpy... |

You may or may not know, you may or may not care, but I'll tell it anyway: Buddy was (sort of) one of us, a former unarmed combat instructor in the USMC. Ooo rah, ooh rah!
I wasn't at the gig, but he was on Parkinson telling the very same story about how he carried on a tour one handed. Of course, according to him, he was better one-handed than most drummers are two-handed (Deaf Shepherd's drummer excepted ).
Buddy was legendary for giving his band bollockings on tour, apparently one of the bollockings was surreptitiously recorded and was in wide circulation for a while; unbelievably there is also rumoured to be a recording of Buddy bollocking the band for having made previous recordings of him bollocking the band... are you keeping up with this? That's getting a bit like this site with the 'what hacks me off' loop of recurring messages.
Now I don't want to give anyone ideas, but I'm sure some unscrupulous person could record juicy band bollockings and compile them for a 'best bits of 2007' CD? Having said that, I hear that a certain hamster like JNCO was caught practising giving bollockings to the mirror while on board Argus .... |

I don't know about whilst on the "Death Star" Nonny, but word on the street was rife that he did use to indulge in said practice - more than he ever practiced his log........... _________________ I feel the need - The need for Tweed! |

By the way, don't go around saying Hey Nonny-nonny too much old thing - It's only one step away from peshroomy. And then, I'm afraid I shall have to call the Police. _________________ I feel the need - The need for Tweed! |

Deli. The picture in Blue Band Autumn 1983. Buddy Rich posing with Al Sessions, John Puddle, And Sticky Blue (the older looking one). Is that the pic you're on about?
What a coincidence. I've just sat on the loo reading the first magazine I picked up.
On the previous page is the full Corps Of Drums at Eastney. That would make a good photo comp if I knew how to show photos on here. _________________ Play up Pumpy... |

Ah Melchett dear boy. 'Fraid you'll have to explain 'peshroomy' as I haven't a clue what you're babbling on about.
As for calling the police, well let me tell you I was chatting to a rather attractive WPC in your neck of the woods just a few weeks ago. Not only was she attractive , but also in uniform , and .... the best bit of all she was a 'velcro' . Now how many good looking lesbian police women have any members of this site ever had the pleasure of making the acquaintance of? ???
Sadly it was painfully obvious that my love was unrequited but I shall always fantasise about what could have been... |

Speaking of Tulliallan, was any on the gig where the band 'struck up' the theme to 'The Munsters'? Ooh ya beauty! _________________ Hey nonny no!

When the winds blow and the seas flow?
