Looks like the plod's version of Mountbattens! I thought you left to avoid those gigs 
I hope the gig goes well matey but don't blow the roof off, it'll cost quids to replace it and probably hurt

Weeelllll, not exactly like the MB's!
I've never been a part of such professional music-making as this outfit, who I've been with permanently since 1995.
We play fantastic music in fantastic venues, including the RAH - (only the once and before I joined). Of course, Symphony Hall is purpose built for classical concerts and is far and away the best place I have played in.
We have some stunningly good musicians in the British Police service and some of them have been RMB's - at this time there are only 2 of us but there are many more out there.
Any takers?

The gig went very well indeed - thank you for asking!
Unfortunately, the section principal has decided to hang up his horn (hmmmmm sounds dodgy) which left us in the lurch, what with the Shostakovich 5th and all that!
Soooooo, I volunteered my services (being the shy and retiring type that I am) and ended up on 1st horn for the symphony.
Top B went well - as did the rest of the piece. It was a triumph actually. The whole orchestra sounded excellent throughout.
It was a very long day too. We started final rehearsals at 09.00 in the hall itself and finished 45 mins before the matinee performance for kids at 14.00.
By the time we sat down at 19.30 I was ready for me bed - but with all my experience (!) I managed to pull it all together. The first entry is a solo on the dreaded top G (previously reported in the St Paul's thread) but at least it's a loud one.
The trouble is, the piece has already been running for about 5 mins before the 1st horn makes it's strident entry - and that means you've started to go cold. My heart was racing knowing what was to come, and being out of my 2nd horn comfort zone I didn't have the luxury of creeping in with a nice quiet low note. So I had to keep telling myself to calm down and I just knew that if my first note was clear and confident the rest would follow.
I was right. I down-graded my original objective of making it sound easy to that of making it sound as if I wasn't nervous and suceeded admirably.
All the feedback was that it sounded good and that it was if I was doing that sort of thing all the time - mission accomplished.
