We have just been informed of the untimely death of Tim Smye-Rumsby in Dunfermline.

Tim, who always kept himself fit, passed away some time whilst swimming at Dunfermline swimming pool on Sunday 03 September 2006. A Post Mortem should be carried out soon and funeral details will be posted here as soon as they are confirmed. At the moment Trish, Tim's wife, has asked that any exRMBS attending should take their instruments as she would like a band to play during the service provisionally booked for Saturday 09 September 2006.

A fine SNCO, a gentleman and a great musician... Tim will be missed. Our sincere condolences go to his family and all who knew him.

Rest in peace Tim.

Tragic news indeed, I was talking to him not so long ago.
He was a previous Bandmaster at Faslane and is still fondly remembered by the Band.

A very good friend and tormentee, (Tim Smye-Ringbolt to name but one of my endless quips about and against him), what a fine bloke he was - always with a smile on his face and ready to help.

He travelled 100's 0f miles from Scotland to be with me on my 21st birthday and slept all the way through the fun. He it was that introduced me to John Barry's music by buying me a tape for that same birthday - Trish was there too, sleeping right alongside of him.

I will now always wish I'd made that little extra effort to get back in touch with him, I knew exactly where he was too and sent the occasional message via a third party. You always think there'll be another day...

I am very sad at this news.

All of my sympathy goes out to you Trish in these long tragic days and of course to your children. It's so different missing someone who you know you'll never see again.

Rest in peace Tim, you were a very good friend and companion.

Many happy memories of Tim, in particular from our time at Arbroath. Tim was a bundle of energy, and a regular visitor to my parents' home during our time at Rosyth, where he was never shy to ask for his favourite snack of scrambled eggs.

Rest In Peace my little friend.....

RIP Tim FPP SR. We served at FOSNI together for a couple of years. Lovely man, very funny, and great flautist.

I was in J Wing with Tim, he had joined just before me, and our paths crossed from time to time over the next 20 odd years. The photograph above is how I will always remember him. Smiling.

Thanks for all the laughs, Tim.

Sad news indeed about Tim and in such tragic circumstances, just been congratulating others on reaching a certain age and then this, it makes you realise just how quick these things can happen. I had the pleasure of serving with Tim for a short while in my early days with the Fleet Band at Chatham, before he moved on, a good Fluatist and a real nice guy. My condolences to all the members of his family and to those members that is the family of the RMB.
RIP TIM.

Tim Smye Rumsby's funeral details are as follows:

The service will take place at 12 midday at St. Margarets Church, Dunfermline (opposite the Carnegie Hall). There will be a wind ensemble (none pussers) in the church for the hymns etc. Afterwards all are invited to the Glen Pavilion (opposite Nissan garage) for drinks and a small Military (pussers) band will play marches etc. If you can, bring an instrument and join in.

If you require any other details do not hesitate to contact me at above address.

Chalky

I first met Tim when I was drafted to FOSNI band in 1984. He took care of the new starts and made sure they got involved in every pu going. My best memory was of the time we played tubby the tuba in the carnegie hall. I played tubby and looked like a tuba. Tim played the pic and looked the same size as the pic ! God bless you Tim.
