Yes they do Vic. The trumpet is used in concert band and the cornet in parade band. I'm not a cornet player so perhaps one of them will put me straight but I believe that some of the cornet players also play trumpet in Concert Band, Dance Band and in Big Band.

As Deli says Vic, RMB's have some extremely accomplished cornet players, who double up on trumpet for Dance and Orchestral work..
In my day, some cornet players doubled up on Violin/Viola. We also had "solo" cornet guys who were the main trumpeters. I have to say Sid Rose was one of the finest of my era..as I'm sure there are superb players currently serving..

I thought they would A..Being a bass holder, I was always a bit jealous of the cornet/violinists when you saw the small amount of gear they had to hump about...

Until I happened to notice how many notes they sometimes have to play in each bar...

I thought they'd give me a scratchbox, but they offered me piano. Out of desperation probably!

Take heart RAB! Someone has to provide a firm base for a Band to establish itself on.

Deep down you know it makes sense.............................
