Is this even a band? The file name was: Aden - HMTDunera1960 is that any help?

The only name I have is Peter John Rogers RM14414 who is in the picture and was probably a bugler.
Any help will be great, this is to help his son out as Peter has recently passed away, his obit was in G&L recently

If you look closely Deli, most of them have what looks like Lyres on their right arms which would indicate a group of Musicians. So they could possibly be a small ships band?

The two badger does appear to have a Lyre on his Right arm. Could it be 3 Cdo Bde band? How big would that band have been in 1960 and would it have been in Aden?

Hi , everyone. Firstly allow me to introduce myself, my name is Russ and the photo above if of my dad and his mates returning from Aden 1960 on HMT Dunera. His service records show he was in 40 commando at the time. My dad is bottom right of the photo.
My dad joined as a boy bugler in 1954 (15 yrs old) and stayed at Deal until Oct 1956 when he was transferred to Eastney. While at Deal, he had the honour of playing at The Edinburgh tattoo of which Richard Valentine's website has given me access to a line up of that band. And I've found my dad on there through other contacts.
In Jan 1957 he was on HMS Maidstone until Aug. 1959. At this point he was tranferred to 42 Commando for 4 months, then to 40 Commando from Dec 1959 till April 1961 where his rank strangely changes from Bugler to Marine. and his ROP goes to 21/- and also added is "PRO RM" . He then returnd to 41 Commando before completing his service with 43 Commando until Sept 63 whilst also serving on HMS Albion.
There we are gentlemen, in a nutshell. Thank you all for contributing to my search in some way. I was very proud of my dad and his relationship with the Marines. It is quite sad that him and I did not spend the time to do this earlier in life.
I look forward to any posts that are added and where this goes.
Any further info requested , I shall do my best to give it to you.

Hi Russ,
I'm afraid that picture is a bit before my time, but I'm pretty sure that it's Stan Wilkinson, (trombone) seated rear left as we loof at the picture. I'm sure the others will be identified in the fullness of time, and names will be forthcoming..

Thanks for the welcome ! I appreciate it .
I've been here before to see if I could get info regarding my dad but seen that this site was mainly for bandsmen, although my dad was a musician, it seemed that this was exclusive. Sorry for judging the book by its cover so to speak.

I understand how difficult it is to recall someone from 50 years ago so I intend to give all the prompts I can, remember "Nostalgia , its the only way forward " :-)

Russ has just sent this to me to post up for you all, it is 1959-60ish and the two guys are called Jan and Brum if that helps any of our more senior members. They were oppos of Russ's dad so off you and seek my hounds.

I'll let our historical researcher know about this thread and see if he has any input into the thread

Yeah , these 2 gents are Jan and Brum (as we look at them ). They're part of 40 commando based in Malta.
Now , if my dad took this photo then surely he'd have the good sense to have one taken of himself looking this smart ! Errrr no !
There again , he might have , and someone else has got it , just like I have this cracking photo of Jan and Brum.

I think your right Rab... Thats Stan Wilkinson and next to him is a guy called McKay... ex staff band circa 65\70/ The 3rd Commando Brigade was based in malta about that time before moving to Singapore to cover the Borneo Campaign in the early 60's. The Band was always actively used in Brigade. You may also notice that they appear to wear Commando flashes and commando daggers. The Bulger at the front has dodgy socks!!!!
He is also wearing a commando unit lanyard. Brigade Band wore dark green. So if this was 42 the Buglers would be white.
I am sure Col Jim could throw more light on this for names.
Cannot recognise the two buglers in Nos Ones. The man for this would be Piner.. Major. very interesting pics

Hi Dan , some interesting info coming my way , thanks.
By referring to the bugler with the dodgy socks and the questionable lanyard, exactly which Marine are you referring to ?
And Stan Wilkinson being ?
