Naahhhh mate!
Once you get to know me, you'll realise that I'll get a nibble off anyone who likes to take a bite.
I very rarely aim a comment at anyone - I prefer the 'scatter-shot' effect. Throw out a line and see how many you can reel in.
No offence meant or intended.
I'd do the same for a bulger...
(See what I mean about the scatter-shot?)

It was he OK! My good friend. We had some run in's I can tell ya! Some I won, some I lost - but it was the taking part that counted....
Nobody ever got him better than my old oppo Tim Dickinson. MJ was bawling him out the way that only he could (he was 'only' a Sergeant at this point) and was shouting some really inane things at a very intelligent guy. I knew this 'cos I was the other side of a hatch earwiggin'.
Tim says, "So you think I'm stupid do you? In that case we'll continue this 'interview' in German.
And he did, not another word came out in English. Good man Tim - whatever happened to you?
As for MJ? Well, he went on to much bigger and better things. Didn't he?
We exchanged e mails a couple of years ago - and I'm big enough to forgive and forget. Not before I put him straight on a few points though!!!!
 |
I always thought that Tim offered him the opportunity to conduct the argument in Latin not German, but I may have got that wrong, but Latin does seem to be one of the languages that stuck in my mind that Tim would use.
Last time I heard Tim was a manager of an electronics store in Southsea, but that was a number of years ago. _________________ Wine is meant to be drunk............I am drunk.............Therefore am I wine??

Bri - I was very close to writing Latin because that's what I thought he was using at the time - but it seemed a bit improbable, so I left it at German which I know he speaks fluently.
I'd love to get in touch with Tim again, he was my 1st best man!!
Mark - Trouble with me and MJ was that we went back so far, I think I must have nicked something off him when he was a Corporal. (His dignity and credibility seems favourite)
I don't suppose it helped on one occasion when he walked into the heads whilst I was shaving one morning and said, "I think I'll have a purge on haircuts this morning, you're first Thorn..."
My reply, "Fcuk off prick" was calculated to offend.
I think he thought he could tame me. WRONG!
Actually, I think we parted under reasonable terms - we were both glad to see the back of each other. _________________ Husband of the Classic FM Music Teacher of the Year 2008. Fame at last, I knew it would happen one day...

I know Bronco's dit was posted way back but I have to do this or I'll have bad dreams.
RT 1974.
Order of music was,
Mountbatten March, Seminovsky, On Parade, Drum Torque, Black Bear, Shrewsbury Fair, Battle of Trafalgar.
As we started the "buglers week" in Deal, Satch was telling us that each performance would begin with a fanfare, using Herald trumpets. This would involve our own buglers and an equal number from London Transport. He obviousy did not say that. He told us that the other trumpeters, would be from the "Royal Blues"
Could some one please tell the dit, where Satch forgot to C/march for the Drum routine on Horse Guards. I can't remember if it was the gig , or rehearsal?
And I'm getting old, so I have to take me pills and go to bed. _________________ Once a Bugler, always a Turtle |

I think I've explained before, according to your Sports Presenters, England don't need any support..Apparently even this year's World Cup is in the bag... ..
Besides,...Where the Hell can us Jocks find the time to support our greatest rivals, when we're so bad at most things, we need all the support we can muster ourselves.. ??.. ..
Except the fine art of CURLING of course.....

Might care to add Chris Hoy there Rab. Good on him ..3 Golds. |

Getting back to JS who was such a strong character in the Corps.
Doe,s anyone recall doing massed bands and John yelling 'form a diamond'
complete mayhem followed that one.
Two dits I recall when I was one of his Instructors in the wing.
At the time Monty Python was the in TV prog. There was a sketch where the
Ice cream seller was trying to sell Albatross flavoured Ice cream. The 'in' saying was calling out 'Albatross',Albatross. Obviously Satch had,nt seen this episode and
one lunchtime in the Nelson in the company of myself, Jim Trewerne and Robbie Evernden out shouts Satch in the middle of our conflab..Albert Ross,Albert Ross.
At first we were mystified what he was on about..then the penny dropped.
Same location same staff discussing branch matters.
The Nelson used to sell lovely toasted sandwiches. Satch orders one and as we
were chatting, without looking, he picks up his, takes a bite and states ,Cor these are lovely arn't they.
He had,nt taken the wrapper off. We just curled up.

Remember the Missed "Last Post & Revelle! at Deal church on rememberance day.
I thought everyone knew its the eleventh hour of the eleventh day ect that Last Post is sounded, but Satch had a word with the Pardre, who had informed him he was doing a large sermon and this one would be late, do you remember running from the cottage to the church at 1105 only to find we had missed it. _________________ Ex Bugler interested in locating old friends

After I had been out of the box for a year or two and in Stonehouse, we went to Deal for Massed Bands. Jim Trewern asked how I had got back so quick?
I asked him what he meant? Apparently, according to Satch and his State board, I was serving with a Commando unit, somewhere in the far east. No wonder i was able to remain in Stonehouse for all those years.
In 1973, on Horse Guards rehearsals, I was not quite 19. In those days, a bugler of my age, had his place in the order of things and behaved accordingly. Ie, did not act like a teenage 3 badgeman.
We were practicing the Intro to Drum Torque, where Satch had us coming in on every crotchet. Not paying attention, I missed my entry, which was spotted by Satch. He told me that if i did It again, he would send me home. How upset I was and would have been. I actually wanted to be there!. A lot more of the older branch members, started to get it wrong after that. They would not do that today,........... would they???????? _________________ Once a Bugler, always a Turtle |

Those who were found "unclean", were put in Kit Bags and hanged from trees in the graveyard. Can't do that sort of thing now. There would be a Government enquiry. _________________ Once a Bugler, always a Turtle |
