First of all, did my comment (dated 17th march)offend Bob? my sincere apoligies to him if it did. I can't believe my comment was taken seriously. It was supposed to ( and i hope it still does) read lightheartedly?. No, i wasn't a Chatham 'dogend.' However, i did serve my 22yr. penance in the Buglers branch, and along with it received stick, flung it, played the OD and so on. However, i did leave with my sense of humour intact.
My apologies to you Hornblower if you feel a few dit's about you would not be worthy of a story on this site. I know there's a few about me and i would not feel offended if they are posted on this site (providing they are not OTT.) (In fact, i have posted some already). |

That's the trouble with text. There's no feeling in it, or emphasis. I know you can Bold, underline or italic certain words to present a different meaning, but rarely do you get the exact feeling in text. I think we've all been on the wrong side of words in this forum at one time or another. PUTTING TEXT IN UPPER CASE GIVES THE IMPRESSION YOU'RE SHOUTING AT PEOPLE. for instance. Ah well the English language and all it eccentricities. Give me Swahili anyday...... _________________ Wine is meant to be drunk............I am drunk.............Therefore am I wine??

You obviously don't really know me then Double A. 25 years in the RMB and not ever raising my voice on anything other than a sports field. _________________ Wine is meant to be drunk............I am drunk.............Therefore am I wine??

A good point about written English. Punctuation can help but use text spk and it is impossible to express any emotion or emphasis.
For forum use there is what?
Are you sure you don't know?
Now think
I think you have it don't you
The emoticon serves a very real purpose
For example:
You are stupid
or
You are stupid
Same words, different meaning and emphasis.
I mod on a very large forums and it is so annoying when someone comes in and starts asking the questions and ad "I can't bothered to use the search" apart from locking their topic and sending them a PM bo!!ocking I'll often do a search to see if the topic does exist. They do exist and are very often misspelt or in text speak and because of that, you can't find them. It really makes me and then go on the rampage _________________ The Royal Marines Band Service on line |
