In years gone by there were Bandmasters (Class 2) and Staff Bandmasters (Class 1)

Checking through this thread, I notice that Trombone <be it Tenor or Bass> is not listed. I am going to "assume" that as a Trombonist, one would not have to double on a different instrument.
In the US Navy Music Program, an Oboist <like my wife> would be required to double on Alto Sax and not cymbals. Keyboard & Guitarists would be required to double as a "percussion minor".
Barb, on her own, picked up Flute & Piccolo while on active duty. She also played Bb Clarinet <but the Navy never knew she could play it> having actually begun on it before switching in junior high to Oboe. |

indeed you are correct. Trombone is classed as a solo category. In more recent times there has been a Trombone/Cello and the categories have become less fixed and are now more flexible.

In recent times there has also been Trombone and Double Bass (Colin Brown), Bass and Cello(Riggo) and also Cornet and Viola (Joe Baggs).

I think Riggo and Graham were in training together, but I have just remembered another lad that joined in September 1970, Clive Alinson. Joined up with Townsergeant. Clive was also a Bass and Cello man, Very fine too.

Yes, the late Clive Allison from North Allerton, who changed over and became a DL.
