I am sorry to have to report that Dave has finally passed away. He died on the 2nd October 2008 at 5pm. Dave has fought the battle with cancer as well as could and always with good humour. When I rang him. Dave always greeted me his own "Hello Sunshine how are you"...despite his own pain and suffering. Dave was a Royal Marine from top to toe and inside out.

RIP Dave you were one of the best.
Dan

Served under him when he was Corps Drum Major and alongside him when he was in the Dover Harbour Board Police.

Knew him both times as a witty and kind man.

My deepest sympathies got to his close ones and especially Yvonne.

The great massed band in the sky, grows by one more..........

Dave Buchanan.............R.I.P.

I only heard about Dave's professional and benevolent attitude from others and often wondered whether I'd have sorely tested both.

Probably not!

Another family member passes to swell the ranks of the celestial band of brothers...

Rest in Peace Dave and my sincere condolences to your broken hearted family.

First knew Dave when he was Boy's Wing Drum Major.  Bumped into him, like the rest of us from time to time, until he retired.  His patience was sorely tested by my M1's Course and our attempts at Band Drill but he made the Company Admin studies easy.

Good bloke.........................Doncaster schools tour J Wing Band end of the 60s.  Anyone?

Sad news, Dave was an inspiration to many! The smartest bloke in NATO, one of life's TRUE gentlemen and every inch of him a Royal Marine.
RIP Dave, it was an honour to know you...

I was very saddened to hear that Dave Buchanan passed away after a brave fight with his illness.  It was always a pleasure at the channel tunnel when Dave would pop in for a coffee on a quiet night shift and talk about the good old days.  He retained that sharp wit that he had in the Corps and was always as smart.  My sincere sympathy to Yvonne and his family.  RIP Dave.

Dave was my Instructor before he went pole swinging.
What an insperation for a 15 year old Junior Bugler.

Arrived at the Hospise in Ashford last night at 7pm and got a call from Yvonne to say that Dave had sadly passed away at 5pm Teresa and I were very sad that we did not get to say goodbye.
We had been to visit a few weeks ago and although very frail and in pain made us very welcome and only as Dave could relaid to us some of his many stories of time spent in the Corps.
I had the pleasure of serving with him when he was CDM at Deal and as well as his excellent man managment and administrational skills he was as far as I was concerned the smartest Drum Major to don a 'Lion Taimers' suit.
Much later I worked for him in Folkestone when he had the tittle of 'UK Terminal Security Manager Eurotunnel' all the lads and ladies there called him 'Uncle Buck' and would jump from their seats to look busy when they knew he was about. He used to call them all his 'Kids'.
Dave was one of lifes great characters and will be sadly missed by all that knew him. Deepest condolences go out to Yvonne and his family.
Rest in Peace old friend.

Just been told of the passing away of "Uncle Buck" by his son Steve who works with us at Eurotunnel.
He will be missed by everyone who new him for his great sence of humor.

And as Malc said the smartest man to don the lion tamers outfit.

A great character, who was a great example to the band service and the branch.
Dave was a L/Cpl instructor when I joined and was always larger than life then and through the many years I knew him. We became great friends when I was I/C Corps of Drums at the RMSM. To his honour I wrote Tara'bewky when he retired.
That sentiment holds deeper feelings now.
Condolences to Eyvone,David,Steve and the family.

RIP Dave.
