WW1 Royal Marine
I've just discovered that my Royal Marine Grandad's rank/rating was a Mus. and his No. was preceded with RMB.
Does this mean he was a musician (or am I way off!)
Regards and thanks for your time,
Patricia

Hi Pat,
I will check up but if you look at the historical section of the website you'll see that all Musicians were prefixed with RMB during WW2, I'm not sure aboiut WW1 though. I will have a look and see what I can dig up.

WW1 MarineThanks ever so much, and I will certainly explore your site further! If you do manage to "dig" anything up, I will be eternally grateful!
It's been a nightmare trying to negotiate the National Archives Site to get hold of further info!

PS I see you are at Portsmouth - that was my G'dad's division. (Hope the terminology is right!)

Hello Pat,
I have a copy of the Service Certificate for one William Ingham who joined the Royal Marines as a Band Boy on 21st September 1912. He has an official number prefixed by RMB.
So, yes they did!

Thanks for that, I'm still trying to find ref. numbers so I can send for attestation papers and service record --- no easy task!
Best Wishes,
Pat

RM Band Records WW1.
Contact the Fleet Air Arm Museum.

They hold RMB archives for that period and are exceptionally helpful people. You may have to wait but you can often get a result just from a surname and initials.
Good luck.
