Mr Bass Trombone

Wally Hibbert RiP

Just picked up Richards site that Wally Hibbert passed over on the 4th of May to join the other great RMB Band Service where ever it may be. I can remember Wally rejoining the Band Service at Deal in FVDs time in the early 60s I am sure how long he had been out but he was certainly older than most of that time. He was a fine Flute and Piano player in his time, I also had the pleasure of serving with him during my time at Eastney, he was a very likeable person, he used to gig a lot with Maxie Beare when Maxie ran a group in Portsmouth known as the Bernie Stratton Four, I think the late Paul Moody was also involved with this at some time as well. Some of you may have met him at the last couple of Reunions which I am sure he attended.  My sincere condolences to his wife and family and to all of those who knew Wally in the RMB.
 WALLY HIBBERT RiP.

I remember a really old BCpl Bass Drum, on Ark Royal in 1971. Is it the same person? Joe 90 will know.

You're spot on Mac, Wally and Keith Whittall were messdeck Cpls until Keith got promoted. Wally was librarian and Cine operator so we got plenty of movies in the mess. He was also a dab hand at photograhy and did a bit of developing in the mess using a greatcoat as a darkroom. Photos came out alright too.

RIP Wally.

Wether It's a good or bad thing, I am able to recall clearly, events from the past and your comments Alec, remind me of watching the film, Krakatoa East of Java in the band mess on the Ark. Some band members winding Wally up when the reel ran out and moaning that he was taking far too long to get the movie going again. A happy and memorable time for me, as I was still only 16 years old and a temporary member of the ships band.
ALL those in the band, treated me and Griff well, even Tanky and of course, Wally.

PS. Alec, I might have another LOBSTER foto, with Wally in It. I'll try and find it.

Did many gigs in and around Pompey with Wally.
A fine musician with a great sense of humour.
My heartfelt condolences to Wally's family.
Rest in peace my friend.
