Trouble Across the WaterEarly '70's we took one of our many trips to NI, this time for an RNR function onboard HMS Caroline(no not the radio station), and we were stabled onboard a stinking decrepid former prisoner ship, the name of which escapes me..We arrived at quayside in Belfast Harbour amidst tight security with armed Booties etc to protect us...We formed a pusser's chain to unload the pantec. with Taff Ryan front anchorman and Dan the Man next in line..Things were fine until Taff caught Dan square on the chin with a suitbag reinforced by a pair of parade boots therein. Taff being Taff had now found a new way of annoying a future Drum Major, so repeated the manouvere..BIG MISTAKE!!!..Dan immediately returned the compliment and that was the touchfuse ignited..A "slight altercation" ensued in the back of the truck, and, being the pacifist that I am, I did my best to develop it into WW3..
As we were boarding our dreamboat, one of the Booties , who had appeared from behind his sandbags, said "I've been across here for 3 F'word months and that's the worst trouble I've F'word seen yet".. [/b]
