It is with regret and deep sadness that I have to announce the death of Terry Bishopp. On Saturday early morning at about 0620 whilst he was out cycling, he was in a head on collision with a BMW, at Banwen not far from his home in Crynant, Neath. It was as a result of a phone call I made on Saturday morning, that Jeanine, Terry's wife, gave me this news.
It has been some years now since the Bishopp's moved out of Kent to south Wales, and I have been fortunate to have them visit me, and I in return to visit them.
May he rest in peace.

How sorry I was to hear of Terry's passing. Like Alick, I too served with Terry and Geoff at Fleet Band Chatham. Such a lovely guy with a terrific sense of humour. My deepest sympathy to Jeanine and all of the family. Ivor South.

I also served with Terry in Chatham (Dogends).
Many gigs and trips abroad together, doubling up on either his sax or clarinet and he was good violin player too.
My deepest sympathy go out to his wife Jeanine and his family.

I can only echo my erstwhile colleagues above.
I have very fond memories of Terry and Jeanine (I was there the day they met in Ghent) and of course my sincere sympathies and condolences go to those loved ones he leaves behind.
Tragic and probably avoidable, the worst possible news.
Rest in peace Terry, it was a genuine pleasure knowing you.

Crash cyclist was former bandsman
A cyclist killed after a crash with a car has been named by police as a 66-year-old former Royal Marines bandsman.
Terrence Alfred Bishop from Crynant died in the incident at around 0630 BST on Saturday near Neath at the A4109 junction with Banwen.
Police have appealed for witnesses to the collision with a blue BMW estate car, which was travelling towards Glynneath from Abercrave.
Mr Bishop had retired to south Wales from Kent with his wife four years ago.
Police say he was wearing a fluorescent bib, white sweatshirt and sandals when the crash happened.
Mr Bishop was a former Royal Marines bandsman and before his retirement worked as an orthopaedic shoemaker.
He moved to Crynant from the Gillingham area with his wife Jeanine.
Witnesses are asked to contact 01792 456999 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

My sincere condolences to Jeanine and all members of his family, and to all of you who knew and served with him in the RMB. I had the good fortune to serve with him and his brother Geoff during my time at Eastney and at Dogend HQ. I also was in Ghent when he and Jeanine met,a little story to go with this one, we the Fleet Band were on board the RFA Engerdine in Ghent for the flower show they hold there a couple of days after they had met Jeanine decided to come on board and ask for Terry, there was rather a large scots fellow on the gangawy at this time he made the pipe would MAGICIAN Bishop report to the gangway where he has a visitor which of course was Jeanine well we did laugh.Terry and his brother were local to Deal they came from Wingham, their parents had a shop in the village opposite the Black Dog a drapers I think.
Once again my condolences go out to his wife Jeanine and to all other members of his family and to all of you who had the pleasure as I did of knowing and serving with Terry.

So sad to hear about Terry's death. I served with him and Geoff in CinC Western Fleet. Both were gentlemen and scholars.

I joined up with Geoff in 1960 and my first draft was to Chatham Home Fleet Band where I met Terry.
While I was at Chatham I often went with Terry and a couple of the lads to visit his parents at Wye, near Ashford. (Terry driving his new mini illegally as he hadn't passed his test then.) The whole family were lovely people and I mean that sincerely.
As I was 'UA' when I went to Pembroke Terry often gave me his tot. Now that's a mate for you!
