Service record William GILL

Hello,

I have been asked by an elderly relative to look for information about his uncle,  William GILL born Salford Lancs 1887, who served in the Band of the Royal Marines for more then 20 years and then moved to the BBC in London as a musician, he had a pension from both, he probably died abt 1970, any tips would be very much appreciated.

Cheers,  Norma

Hi Norma, you would be best off contacting the Royal Marines Museum on 023 9281 9385 as they have the details of where the records are stored

Norma,
All records for service personel that served pre 1930 are now stored at the National Archives Kew. You can go and look at them all you will need to do is register at the reception desk and become a reader(free) and then you can go and look at whatever records you want, you can even get them copied so as you can keep them.
Hope that this is some help for you

Well done Admin and Styx.

Helpful as ever to those who ask.

I got my Grandad's WW1 Medal record online, hence avoiding a trip to Kew.

This may help?
