Sandringham Or Bust!

Does anybody remember the famous Sandringham Flower Show incident?
Staff Band were on the way to the gig when the coach driver, Bob Bailey, took the band to Felixstow in stead of Sandringham (I must admit they do sound the same.....not!). Well after a few choice words from the PDM,G.H. we turned the bus around. The whole band were in hysterics. G.H. would not let Bob put his wallet on the pedal hence we were late. I forgot to mention that we had to play the National Anthem on arrival of the VVIP, HM The Queen Mum. Well when we arrived she was already looking at flowers etc. The press came up to G.H. and asked for an interview to explain and after a lengthy interview he said, and I quote " If anybody's head should role, it shall be mine". This was recorded by a member of the Band Service now a serving DOM and played over and over and over again on numerous jobs for weeks. How we all laughed!!!

and it rained... rained like it does in a monsoon in a wet place on a rainy day. I've never seen so much rain; as that day. The heavens opened and stayed open. I don't think we did anything apart from a bandstand and the Corps of Drums did a quick, static and off to the second quick. Happy days!
