Ray Alberry's Son and Polly Perrett

I had an email from Ray after a request from the forum re his son and the answer is yes! Ray's son did serve in the RMB. If anyone wants to contact Ray he is happy to receive message. Ray served on the Hermes with me, you can contact him on ray AT musicmaker3 DOT fsnet DOT co DOT uk Ray is living in Doncaster. Whilst I am sending this message if anyone can put me in touch with Polly Perrett who served with me on the Hermes 61-63 that would be great. Ray told me that Polly ended up in the his home base at Mere in the police force and will have retired by now.

Adelaide reunion only 4 days to go!

All the best John Meir (jkjazzy) ex RMB 3696

Hi guys!
I have been completely out of touch with anything RMBish since I left.
The names you mentioned strike a few bells.
Did we know you as Jonny Meir?
I can't place Ray Alberry, but seem to remember a Jack Alberry. Wow, that's ploughing through some cobwebs.
I was on Eagle 64 to 66.
Best regards

Further to the last jkjazzy,
Looked at some photies, who I thought was Jack Alberry was Jack Arberry (don't know if correct spelling). Trombone I seem hazily to remember.

Polly Perrett, I remember that I remember!!
I served with him, was it concert orchestra Deal?

Oh, all these half memories emerging from the far distant past.

Anyway, I have had a great reply from Ginge Deary (member here), Eagle 1964-1966 and somewhere.

We are trying to find a Bob Bottomley. (again spelling not guaranteed).

Any info to Ginge or Phr33k.
Thanx & 4 this site. Bringing back so many memories.

Bob John
Ginge Deary

Jack Arberry is/was a trombone player who would be about 66 now.  Ray Alberry is/was a trumpet player who would be nearer the 70 mark.
You spelt 'Bottomley' correctly but I'm not sure about 'Bob'.
Pablo

He ain't older than me & that's for sure!!  Jack would be 64.  Final Answer!

You can find Jack Arberry in the RMA at Eastney, I'm sure he said he'd retired last time I saw him. I served with him at Ganges back in the early 70's

Not often you're right Jim - but you're wrong again, or at least partially.  When you said "He ain't older than me".  Few people are!
Mr Bass Trombone

I am one the few on the Forum who is older, yes you will find Jack in the Rma at Eastney, we always share a chat and bevvy at Reunion time, I thought he was around the 66 mark I am sure he told me last year he was getting his OAP???
Pablo

Come on you old farts!  Jack got "Rated" after me. Makes him a younger sprog than me.  To my failing memorythat makes him 64 due to the fact I just hit 65. (Born 1944 last time I checked) I joined June 58 & I got rated in '62.
As Jack was not "backwards" or "delayed" being rated & joined after me, later in 58/58 this puts him at 64.

AGAIN, FINAL ANSWER.
(I promise to be humble if I turn out to be wrong, which is not often!)

ADMIN:  You need to resolve this please.
Also, you ain't got no trombone emoticons here! (Or bugles come to that)
Ginge Deary

[quote="Pablo"] I got rated in '58.
quote]

Jimbo. My understanding of getting 'rated' is passing out of boys training into mans service.  As you only joined up in 1958 at 14 years old (or was it 1959 at 15 years old?) you would not have been rated in 1958.

I joined in 1960 at 15 years old, which makes me 64 now, and Jack was one of the older boys, possibly a year or two my senior.  Can't be prezact.

Before you give a final answer, phone a friend or ask the audience!

Ginge Deary

Maybe we should take this to Arberrytration!
Pablo

Ginge, you've lost the plot!!!!!   Why are you saying to Mr BT (Mick) that he joined in 58. That was my time of joining you silly old s@d!  Mr BT joined something like 1955/6 ish.
I'll keep this very simple for you as you are acting simple (god, no trumpet emoticons either!) Jack joined AFTER me late 58 - early 59.  Got it.  He was in the wing AFTER I was rated.  As he was never "Back-Squadded" he has by default got to be YOUNGER than me.  I've JUST reached 65.
Wow, my superb powers of deduction places our Jack with an age of 64 & possibly about to ATTAIN 65.
Got the plot now "WHITEY"??????????
I'll Skype you when winter sets in here and the wife allows me to play on the Laptop in the morings again mate.

I think you lot would have had difficulty in passing your NAMET at this rate.

Top of my class actually and never had to take it!!
Brain goes dead on facts here.  We did the passing out at school and depending on your marks, did we not get something like "Ex-NAMET"?
The only crap subject I ever had was Woodwork.  Poor old Ghandi Rule, he used to despair at my attempts to do even the basics! He even had the cheek to have his chats around my table and show the rest of the class how not to do it!
Ginge Deary

CSMS

Jim.  Rewinding a bit, were you in the same year as Penny Pegg at CSMS?
Pablo

Yes & in my class!

They kept all the outstanding talent together then!

Such a shame what happened to Penny.  A tragic end to her career.
Mr Bass Trombone

In the USA there is NO retirement age. Therefore my dear wife won't let me retire. She dosen't want me home all day!! I am 68 years young.
Looking around my neighborhood the only thing retired guys do is mow the lawn so I will stay working.

It's great to see all you 'silly old buggers' arguing about ages. Made me larfff.........

Wouldn't happen to any of our lot as we are not in the senility stages yet (like you lot).

Keep it going........

I think Pablo is correct..............but then again maybe Ginge is right.

As for MTB, take no notice of him, the sun and the San Miguel has addled his brain...........

I retired but I now don't have enough hours in a day during the summer months, I look after Deal Town pitch, train three mornings aweek in the pool myself, getting ready for the Medway swimming champs, then sometimes six days a week train channel swimmers from May to Sept, then winter months in the pool. Then next year I'm training a team who are going from Marbel Arch to Paris, plus two solo channel swims.

OK Charlie, how do you swim from Marble Arch to Paris?

Just joking, keep up the good work, at 70+ you are an inspiration to us youngsters hic.

I think I played waterpolo with you many, many years ago with big foot (Ginge Aston  Trombone size 14 feet)

I agree with your quote on MTB, I've known Mick for about 40+ years.

As for senility, you will all get there one day..... believe me, still living in the 50's is less stressful than living in the present
Mr Bass Trombone

If I  am addled by sun and San Miguel Bob will you support me at the Cenotaph??? or will you provide me with a mobility chair???? And you still have not answered my question are you keeping your pledge or have you chickened out????
2nd Clarinet

I'll guide you along Whitehall Mick........No farting!

As for the other subject, Yes, I will be there, I sent orf me cheque yesterday and when I get me ticket, I'll book my B&B.
Mr Bass Trombone

I took a complete team of musicians to the corps championships one year and god bless him Chick went out and arrived with a hangover, I am unable to make it again this year as I'm racing in the Medway championships, I'd like to try and make a clean sweep of all my age groups in Kent this year.
Len

I spoke to Jack Arberry recently in the RMA.. there's a surprise!... he retired this year aged 65. Unfortunately he has emphassema???? bad chest... but refuses to stop smoking!
