Already welcomed you Peter, and I think Bootybandy has previous convictions for actually singing that one on 'The Ark'...

Hi Peter, the recording is indeed difficult to get hold of. I was in the said band and therefore on the recording, each member of the band was given a copy but mine has been lost. I've tried various means of finding it but to no avail . There must be some of the lads from the Ark on here, so come on boys, pirate your copy and let Peter (and me!) 'rip' it! By the way RAB, bootybandy was of the 'We are Sailing' days!

A piece of trivia on this thread. I was perusing the 'Guiness book of hit singles' and found the following stats:
(we all know) Roger Whittaker reached No1 with this track, but did anyone realise that Elvis Presley also released his cover of it at exactly the same time as RMB Ark Royal?
Highest position in the chart:
Elvis, No46.
RMB (and ships company) HMS Ark Royal, No41.
We were higher in the charts than Elvis!

Hi everyone
I've noticed that Elvis made a recording, never heard it though, and have a copy of Whittaker's but the recording by The Royal Marine Band of the Ark is just awesome. I doubt there is a better one, so a higher position in the charts than Elvis seems to be as it should.
I heard it on radio many years ago but stupid as I was I didn't try to get a copy at that time. Now I long to here it again so please if someone can help me or eric the red it would be much appreciated. A free MP3 or FLAC file would of course be nice but I would be just as happy to buy it.

My 2nd home in the early to late 1970's was the Stonehouse Wine & Spirit Vaults, followed by The Vine, so it could possibly have been one of these fine hostelries?
