Memories of Barry Witts

As my tribute to Barry I thought I'd tell the story of my first meeting with him, I was 18 at the time.

I was told by Pedlar Palmer we were going ashore with Barry for a run down the strip. Not that I knew who he was, well only by reputation. I thought he can't be any worse than Pedlar who drunk very little ( Not ).
Those days there was loads of pubs down the strip and we were on about the 10th one, the one to the right of Diamond Lills as you face it.
Barry decided to have a scrumpy competition against this old hooker. The loser would be the one who fell over.
Of course Barry won hands down after the hooker fell off her stool.
We left just after that ( shame )
As we walked down the road Barry decided to lay a kit muster
Me of  the weak stomach sort walked off urging
50 yrds down the road Barry says F**k it I've lost me false gnashers.
So we go back looking for them. Barry found them in his kit muster shook them off and put them in his mouth.
Me of the weak stomach sort layed a kit muster  next to Barries and still to this day the smell of scrumpy makes me urge and reminds me of Barry

I don't remember much after that but with Pedlar and Barry on a run don't suppose I would.

If anyone else has a dit about Barry lets hear it.

He will be missed by all, a great character.

Bomber... fantastic dit, I hope others have some to share as well
Wee Mac

1. Barry would go into town with Fred Pickering and both of them would get pi$$ed. Nothing unusual there. Then they would walk round the city centre ladies shops, trying on dresses and other items of womens attire.

2. Barry came into work one morning, not having been home the previous night.
Obviously he had gone ashore, got pi$$ed and latched onto a female. He said that people were giving him strange looks, especially when he walked through the barrack gate. What he had not realised, was that he was covered in blood, most of it on his face.  After being prompted to look in the mirror, he told us that he had gone ashore and ended up spending the night with a "Lady"??? He had not realised that his lady friend, was going through a difficult PERIOD.
Hornblower

You bulgers must have a thing about that, what do you think Addy?
