Matt Gates

Shippers....Matt Gates signing on.

I was chatting to a couple of serving band members the other day and they urged me to join in. I was waiting for the 3 beat rolls but with Lt Col H conducting I had no chance......." Gates if you continue to come in late you'll end up at FOSNI. This IS the STAFF band you know.......I have certificates for my conducting"

6 monthst later I was at FOSNI.....nights out with Peck, Chalky and the Loon. Never looked back.

Here's to all the banter that I no doubt will get. Sandy Bottoms!
General Melchett

Aahhh Gatesy!

Crikey, it's been a while.... The old derelict inliers block at Caledonia when I joined from Fleet Band in '93 I Think.

Hope all is well with you?

Jos

Cheers Jos

You're spot on with the date. I left in November '93 and went home to Norfolk and joined upwith a different uniform. I couldn't even spell Pleeseman when I was in the Marines and now I are one!

Gatesy.
MrJpig

Welcome Kratos. Ah the flat lands of Norfolk......and a bobby taboot. do you fish?
Kratos

Get the odd bite at work...but apart from the I try and stay away.

Thanks for the welcome Mr JPig.
MrJpig

Thought I would ask about the fishing as I was at the PSUK beach champs a couple of weeks ago and shared a table with Norfolk C at the presentation dinner. Great bunch of blokes. when I find the programme I'll PM them to ya

Welcome Gatesy.. .I was well away from FOSNI by the time you were promoted to there lol

What GH never realised is what fun it was to be there after he left... And I wasn't letting him into the secret.....
Kratos

Mr JPig

Many of the guys in Nelsons County are mad keen on sitting on the beach all night in oilskins. very strange!

Regards K.
Hornblower

Welcome from me too Matt.

Hope your stay is long and memorable. The more people join in with their dits and comments the better it gets. Good for you mucker.

You know a bit of my history via pm, so I won't bang on.

What d'ya play? (Or what did you play?)
Kratos

Hornblower....nice to hear from you again, you have made me feel most welcome.

I was Solo Clarinet, played alongside Jan Dale and Dave Sharp at CTCRM, then under study to Dusty Miller at Staff band ,then led with Paul Luford at FOSNI.

Fantastic time at all three bases....met some very decent chaps who appeared to have remained so even through dificult and constantly changing times!

Welcome Matt....Mum & Dad still living near the Skool in Sandwich? Nice to see you on here. I remember you well with Mick Davey, Pete Cox and others when I was a destructor in the Wing. Post long and hard matey......
Kratos

Cheers BB. Fun times in the early/mid 80's.....I remember you well. Andy Cunningham was my instructor, I believe he is teaching and gigging in the Medway area?

So your Mum & dad are still in Sandwich too! Coincidence so are mine! Did I miss the punctuation mark? They are retired and living the high life....golf at Princes, spending the inheritance......chunter chunter. You've got a good memory!

They attend the Deal Bandstand gig every year.......dad says," Ooh I saw....no can't remember the name, he plays/played (describes instrument and individual).....he threw up/swamped in our garden....chatted your cousin up and made a complete hash of it" I raise my eyebrows and say," Typical bandy."
townsergeant

Have you got a light boy?

Welcome to the childrens play area!

Kratos

Thank you Sergeant of the Town....I have brought my bucket and spade with me and informed the Post Office of my forwarding address! In fact I sang it to them.

Good to hear you are doing good, and welcome.
Kratos

Colin, I pm'd you with more details....good to see you on here, spread the word. Post often and keep us up to date with the rumour mill.

He was the same as a corporal colhud, hope you didn't take it personally!

At least he didn't change his spots...
