LOCH EWEI would imagine that even though the 'Outdoor Adventure' training has stopped at Loch Ewe , there must still be some dits & pics around to remind others 'WHAT FUN' it was.
Here`s a few pics to start off.
A Before, During & After set.
I think it was Phil 'Noggin' Harrimans birthday when these where taken.
Present are Big Clarke, Eastney Hooker, Karl Reeve, Micky Barham and Gilly Gilbertson.....from memory it was F****ng Freezing.
Have been back to the area a few times both working and as a touroid....It`s a beautiful place.....NOW!!

Cold? It looks BALTIC.
Our troop went but us buglers had to stay behind and do 'Dover Patrol' as they needed a last post. Now the trainees go to Egypt, Italy, Jersey for Adventure training. They have 2 weeks in Newquay comming up soon with: Canoe Surfing, Orienteering, Rock Hopping, Climbing wall, climbing, Mountain Biking... it's a hard life!

I can assure you it was anything but fun when we used to call in at loch ewe when were submarine running in the jolly old north atlantic

Two things I remember about Loch Ewe 1 getting up early to listen to Norman Minto trying to play that f*"%*&g bugle pi$$ing myself with laughter, and 2 the Nigerians being colder than us which made me feel warmer, other than that it was s"*t

Loch EwePictures of 2/81 Troop in Loch Ewe. Sadly 2 members are no longer with us due to the bombing.
I thought after experiencing the freezing cold climate of Scotland I would never go back. 22 years later I'm still here !!

I went to Loch ewe in 73 with the likes of Brian Short and John Ballantyne. After a few days, John decided he didn't like it and was going home. We did point out that there was no where to go, but John had to test it out. That is til he got hungry, it got dark and he returned. Still the love and attention he then got from the instructors took the flak for the rest of us. I recall John having to wet shave at first light in the Loch in front of all hands. Good job there were no sharks coz the amount of blood from his chops would have attracted them for miles. Poor old John, I understand he died a couple of years ago. A great friend who had the ability to projectile vomit, with great accuracy, rum and black any night of the week.
And there was Brian, who thought it a good idea to cook his rations on the hexamine blocks inside his tent. As he crawled out of his tent, he kicked the burner over and the tent went up in flames. As Brian was fire fighting the flames, we all learnt the lesson that a mess tin of warm soup wasn't the equipment of choice for the discerning fire fighter.
But while we were there being miserable and feeling hard done by, we shared the place with a troop of Gurkas who were there for their annual leave - and glad about. Puts it all in perspective really.

I went to Loch Ewe in 1964... when it was really cold!!!!! Unfortunately a 3 tonner I was in decided to do a roll off the road and I unfortunately had to spend the whole 3 weeks being well looked after in the Raigmore Hospital in Inverness... b'stard that!!! I am so jealous when i see you guys having such good fun in these pics!!!

Was it normal to be forced togo into the gay sauna on site????????

Don`t remember there being ANY sauna there.....but the lad 2nd from left has a face on him that looks like he`s been told it`s HIS turn in the barrel.....AGAIN!!!!

I'm with you there matey! I ended up on the "Torment" too. I feel like there is a gap in my life having heard all the Dits from the Loch Ewe Veterans and not being part of it!
I'm sure the showers at Warwick Hall were much colder than an early morning jump into the loch anyway so we must be "Well Arder" than them!!!(Big Girls Blouses)!!!

Hey! I remember Loch Ewe the same 1964 with Dan Archer,I seem to recall they stopped the train and made us walk the rest of the way saying "it`s just over there now B----r off!" When Dan was carted off to the sick bay with a few others us "survivors" had to climb Sail Mohr or whatever the B----y thing was called.Oh happy cold days!!!

I feel so so sad at having to miss Loch Ewe myself. Phil Watson and I won the schooner sail training instead. WAAAAAAAAHHHHH !!!!
I've got some pics, I'll dig out one day. Unlike your Loch Ewe photos, we were smiling in ours !!!!

Was that the Sir Winston Churchill or the Malcolm Miller Ffoggy.? I managed a week on the Sir Winston Churchill AND did the Loch Ewe trip.

Botty, I was on the Malcolm Miller. Did 2 weeks and went from Pembroke Dock, to Penzance, Brest, Alderney, Cowes and er..... Haslar. Fabulous time. The other aforementioned junior with me is now a top class mariner (and DOM), which is a turn up for the books as he was quite seasick back then.

I was on the Sir Winston Churchill. Started off at Plymouth, down to Brest, up to the West Coast of Scotland, Round Ailsa Crag and into a lovely Scottish Port that I can't for the life of me remember???? Train back to Deal, and that was my two week stint. Lovely time......
