I've just recently done my interview.
Read up on the band service.
I was asked about the 5 bands, where they are basically.
Also the training process - 15 weeks basic, 2yrs 8mths on top of that for a musician, 2yrs for a bugler (I think)
They asked me about the pay I would expect to get and how much leave etc.
You also get asked tons about your education, home life (who does housework, things like that) and worklife.
Hope this helps somewhat.
Very best of luck to you

Potential Cornet player: My sister does it, she is 2nd Cornet.
Potential Bass player: I dont have a house.
Potential Bulger: Housework? I suppose my mates do it after thay have shagged , trashed and pi$$ed all over it

Dont know what they have in barracks.I went on the birmingham the other year when she came up to hull for a look round she just looked like a rust bucket (an old buffer would turn in his grave at the site ||).We were taken into one of the messes to say they were grotty is an undrstatement .So i asked the question about the messes been so bad| the answer "It will get done by the civvy cleaning when we get back to plymouth i think it was.then i asked about all the rust on the upperdeck and was told oh it will all get done when we get back||To think i spent many hours on bosuns chairs (painting ship for entering harbour)If this is the modern navy they can keep it.My old buffers would be pulling all their hair and having pups at the thought ||||

How things have changed Les - the last ship I was on was the Ajax - there was a proper Buffer - everything ship shape and shiney

When i think at GANGES and other other establisments swingin that GOD DAMN messdeck buffer (polishing made of a dirty great block of wood with a couple of pussers blankets fastened to it ).All the mess on hands and knees with cloths and shoe brushes putting polish on the deck, and on ships scubbing the the burma(main passage) road at five in the morning.AHhaa those were the days

I've only just started growing hair again on my knees after all that hands and knees polishing. You will all be glad to know that the Parquet flooring in all the rooms and corridors have been lifted and sold to various people in Deal and Walmer. In fact if you go into the Thompsons Bell Public House in Upper Walmer, the whole of the Pub floor is made up of the lovely little blocks of hard wood that once had everyone crawling over them. Come to think of it, they still do now.....
