Instruments & Basics

This may sound like a rather stupid question but I am slightly confused due to conflicting information...

Are we, or are we not supposed to take instruments on Monday when we are due to start basic training?

Thankyou!!!
Jimbo

you will be issued instruments when the instructors are ready for you to have them. You will have plenty of other things to be getting on with for the first few weeks don't worry. The instructors like to keep you 'on your toes' shall we say, muaah hah haah haaah haaaaaaaaahhhhh

phew thanks!!! well at least that's one less thing to be carrying around...
Jimbo

Instruments tend to get damaged in bergens anyway!

you can bring your own stuff once you return from leave.

Admin will probably answer this thread and give you the definitive answer, but if I were you I would leave it at home for the time being

Do they still issue a housewife, button stick etc. ?
MJ

Good question Fizzie - I was going to ask the same thing!

I understand that we will have little or no time for playing, but it would be great to have a quick blast if ever there was a spare 5 mins here or there.
sticky blue

spare 5 mins - wot you on - ????????

haha maybe instead of eating
Jimbo

you'll need to eat properly to keep your energy levels up, it'll help to stop you getting too many injuries.

DON'T skip meals ... the worst thing you could do
sticky blue

I agree - don't skip 'em - wolf them down - you'll need the calories
MJ

Don't worry - I can eat for England - I would never skip a meal even if I was just sitting all day, let alone training in the Royal Marines!!!
MusnShelton

Haha just wait till haloween in Nelson Galley, last year it was all decorated, the food was themed and everything. Even though we did spend haloween night on exercise telic drums :(
sticky blue

and don't forget to get your Mum to send you food parcels - for extra calories
MJ

Even at 25 my mum would still do that!
Fizzie

You mean your actually encourging us to consume lots calories!?
I think I may love this job.
sticky blue

your gonna need 'em

I think you will like it. Now you can pass it on to those nearest and dearest to you or at least at the nearest Pub...

Nope! It would be a good idea for all those joining to make one and take it with them. They might not need it but it is better to have it in case they do.

Do not take any instruments with you. There will be time to collect them on your first leave if you do need them/ want them. You will be issued with any instruments as and when you need them.
sticky blue

So there - now you've been told by the man that knows -
Fizzie

Thankyou!!!

Button sticks are no longer used. They were for sliding behind brass buttons to protect the uniform fabric when polishing them

A Housewife is a sewing kit, needle, threads, spare buttons... anything you need to make urgent repairs.
MJ

Thank you!

All packed neatly away in a small blue cloth bag tied with tape which stows away in your pack
