Hi there

looks like another "Dusty Miller" has found the weird and wonderful pages of the forum.

I've been looking at your comments and it's nice to see so many old mucker's.

I'm the Scottish one. joined jan 1974, served in Chatham, Cdo. Forces Plymouth, Deal, FOP Plymouth, Deal (training) and ended in Yeovil Vol Band.

if anyone remembers me it would be great to hear from you.

The one that performed all bodily functions on my large Kef speakers in the Pembroke accommodation when pi$$ed one night... (that isn't a question by the way!)

Don't worry - although I never did forgive you whilst serving, I finally see the funny side and officially release you from purgatory.

Welcome to the site and join in lots.

cheers "hornblower". guess i know who you are now!

i knew you would never forget. despite my waywardness as a youth, i put it down to trying to fit in and become a "dogend". didn't work to well!

I don't suppose they are still working? And thanks for turning me on to Thin Lizzy and Peter Frampton!

Hope all is well with you and your family? I liked the pictures of you in your uniform!
dustydrums

thanks

this is a general thanks to all for the welcome.

i will get the hang of all the bits, but it's my first time (it's a long time since i've said that).

hope to catch up with some old friends and make some new ones.

Does anybody know the where abouts of Paul Overton or Steve Barlow?

I have recently met up with Simon Porter.

We're all meant to, but nobody (except Deli) does.

Don't let it worry you, it's probably someone who nobody liked anyway. (But at least he didn't try to ruin my speakers!)
Hornblower

How ignorant of me! I didn't answer your question about my Kefs...

They lasted ages and many, many moves around the country - still churning out massive vibes for a long time after your attempt to kill 'em off!

Around 7/8 years ago, I decided it was time for new ones when I bought a brand new house. So off I toddled to a Hi Fi specialist in Cambridge and spent mucho beer tokens on a pair of Celestions A2's http://www.dealtime.com/xPR-Celestion-A2 with VERY expensive flat cables.

I'd invite you to come and visit them, but... well you know how it is!

Mmmmmmmmmmmm lovely sounds

If anyone's looking for a decent set of speakers - stop searching and get these beauty's.

and i thought we had cleared that up at the band reunion of 1989, after drinking in the drill shed till breakfast time. i was on my M3 course tending bar. but that is another story!
Hornblower

There was only one reunion I drank at until breakfast time and in the drill shed, that was the one directly after the bombing.

Due to the amount of alcohol imbibed on that occasion, I'd like to point out that any topic of conversation covered during said sesh will have been forgotten almost instantly!

So, if I provided absolution during that time, I apologise for not remembering it.

I have to say though, it was a v good evening/morning... I think there were 4 of us at the bar at around about 07.30 - who were they Dusty?
dustydrums

If i remember correctly, it was yourself, Paul Coker and Phil Barnard but the fourth escapes me. i also think Chris Gould was helping out behind the bar. JocK (bob) Nelson retired to my pit about 5.30ish.

Sad occasion, but a good night/day.
Mr Bass Trombone

Hi Dusty,
Welcome to the mad and the retirement home of many ex Dogends , I am sure you will soon learn who we all are, except for one who remains hidden some in Transaardvarkacania where ever that may be , but don't worry his bark is worse than his bite. Keep looking in it is good fun and you may be surprised sometimes who jumps up and bites yer bum.

welcome dusty

hi dusty mark peers this end .good to hear from you again .dont get on much due to work , im in touch with stoney
by the way chaps how many dogends are on here, are we slowly taking over
Hornblower

Enough to rule the roost methinks!
Nick B

Hello Dusty welcome on board hope things are good for you
dustydrums

Nice

It nice to hear from some old dogends! glad you're ok muppet. have been to manchester recently and thought of you. and as for bass trombone? glad your managing to rest your weary feet in the med. after all that walking you used to do.

if it helps mark, i know of six dogends on-board. how many do you know?
Mr Bass Trombone

Dusty where did I used to walk to other than the Monarch and other ale houses in the area???? As for the number of dogends on the site I can count at least 27 that I can recall from my time and I left in 1981, and obviously some names have been protected to save the guilty, great days shame a certain DoM came and F^*$!*+ it all up never mind we still had fun didn't we????? I certainly did.

Hello Dusty....

How yer doin? Long time no see.

Great days we had together at Pembroke, weren't they.

I have some dits about you, these are for another time.

Hmmmmm, I remember you well, all trainee 'Jennies' in Pembroke were 'fair game' for you.

Port Band is the best.

The fun sometimes on this site is trying to work out who is who.....

What are you doing down that end of the country?
.
dustydrums

Hi there cortina man.

Still supporting Fulham?

I'm down here still drumming away, teaching in schools 5 days a week, and running my own dance band. just got involved with the Plymouth schools big band and playing in the local big band.

lots of news on the domestic front, but maybe better over a pint or six.

hope your well, and as for me being part 4 training for the "jenny wrns", i learned a little from yourself!!

be good to catch up some time. what are you up to?

That's MR Cortina man to you!

The trusty old Cortina. A good car that got many of us Dogends around the Medway Towns and sometime, further a-field.

Yes......Fulham FC is still supported by myself and long may I shout for them.

Nice to see all that RM Band Service experience is being put to good use. Makes us taxpayers see a return on our money.

(The same can't be said for HB and BootyBandy!)
((HB will probably now list all the things that he does))

Ahhhhhhhh.......Grasshopper!
You learnt your lessons well and I hope my teachings brought enlightenment to you with many pleasant a night throughout all your postings to RN and RM establishments.

You were never Part 4 of Jenny Training, that was me.... You were Part 5!

I have sent you a PM.

Oh, and one other thing.....

Look at the posts in all the areas on this site, and especially the one in the Coffee Boat section titled 'Post Your Mug Shot'.

So come on lets see you now!

Hi Emma. I didn't try to knock them out of your hand, because if I had tried, I would have done it, but i was to busy drinking!

Glad you managed to put 2 & 2 together, very clever. The party, I think, wouldn't have been able to take the excitement!!

It was good to see so many old mates, and to meet some new ones. Still can't believe "Botty" is now a nurse!!

RAB... sorry to disappoint you, but i'm not aware of any picture of me on this site. you must be getting me mixed up with the other "Dusty Miller" - the Bugler/magician - from FOSNI.

As for the "Botty Nurse" thing?? turns out a Bass player called Bott transferred from the Band service to be a Naval nurse. He's just finished his training and started on the wards.

Sorry it wasn't more saucy!!

Still, it would have been rather funny to see you in a starched white apron!

Well, that's what the QARNNS wore during my times in the sickbay (one word or two?) of HMS Pembroke.

Oooooooooooo!!!!!! I can remember the rustle now as they bed bathed me.

.
ZedHorn

QARNNS still where starched aprons and ruffle cuffs and the most silly hats!! 7 pleated folds to represent the 7 seas.. utterly impractical for work but they do look smart... and it was always amusing watching the baby nurses get repremanded by matron for not doign them right!
All in the process of being phased out for regular ward work though, only to be seen on ceremonials shortly!

Sister Wendy Bird ????? Any memories for sick parade in the wing??

Zed

Here is the only picture I could find, sorry it's not in colour.

Ooops! Wrong one......here it is......

Mind you, I'd prefer it if the nurse in the top picture attended my bed pan duties!!!!

.
Hornblower

Mmmmmmmmmmm

Nurse Porter, RNH Haslar, summer 1976, 2 week stay.

She was utterly beautiful and refused to acknowledge that I was even alive.

So I sneaked out for a wet (or 2!) with a matelot and got jobbed by matron on my return. That was some headache too!!

Ahhhhh - but nurse Porter. Gorgeous.
2nd Clarinet

.

OK HB, we all know you are a p%ss artist.

I didn't know Nurse Porter was a killick!

A bit above your station, go round to the tradesmans entrance HB.

And what warranted a two week stay in Haslar?

I remember a story of someone during my time in 'M' Wing ('69-'71) of seeing the Sister during morning Sick Parade and whilst in her office with his trousers down, old 'morning glory' appeared to which the said Sister promptly hit it with her ruler.

I can't think of a name for the pained individual, but I want to know if anyone can put a name to the story.

Ivor,

Dave Herewood?

I'm not saying 'no' to that one, but the name doesn't ring a bell with me for this particular story.
Still, it could've been him........

Yes and no... it depends how people use the forum. If they hit the 'View posts since last visit' they will see it twice, if they are not registered users they don't have the benefit of that particular link so double posts can work to the posters advantage. The only problem is that people then have to cross reference the topics to find the answers and they then get very confused (also not unusual on here, the confusion, not the double posting).

You're right Ivor!

I remember it too and yesterday his name popped into me ol' grey matter - I just didn't want to name and shame (RIP Dave).
ivorsouth

I don't think dear ol' Dave would mind us having a laugh at his expense. He's probably up there in the great parade ground in the sky laughing twice as much as the rest of us. He was that sort of guy.
