Well Sam, it's all in the preperation, and it looks like you've left it a tad late matey. These are the kind of questions you should have been asking a few months ago. Read what other people have asked over the past and what information they can give. Good Luck..........I think you'll need it.
admin

Hi Sam,
the best place to look is here http://www.royalmarinesbands.co.uk/actionmusic/Index_recruiting.htm
You'll see a PDF about audition preparation there. Play something you are confident with that shows your skills off. Don't play something you are not confident with that will trip you up. Polite, smart and read up on the bands locations and what the Corps is doing in general.

Don't practice until you get it right; practice until you can't get it wrong!
sammixjx

Hello Sammixjx and welcome to the Thig

I have a few questions for you to answer prior to your audition to check that you are a musician and not too cocky

1.What instrument do you play?

2.What grade are you?

3.Do you know what a dictionary is?

4.Have you ever experienced the sharp edges of a piccolo before?

5.R U avin a larf?

Thats going to fill him/her with loads of confidence! "I think you'll need it".

Just read up a little bit of the bands history and make sure you've got a few pieces well prepared. Fitness is important, so if you havent started already then get running! It's all about the effort you put in, not necessarilyhow good you are. Try and be confident but not overly and make an effort to get to know the others on the audition.
Good luck! You'll have a great time!
sammixjx

right ok cool! yea i've been doing loads of reading up on the histopry. working really hard on fitness. Thanks

Good Lord! (He said putting on his flat cap and taking out his false teeth).

Comfy beds? You're lucky you got a bed! You'll be wanting a lie-in next!! (What do you mean you could book a shake from that nice friendly DNCO? Any time between 07.30 - 10.00. One slice of toast or two Miss?)

"Corporal, my alarm didn't go off this morning mind if I scrub round today until after lunch?"

"No problems sweet little girly, you just stay put until your head's together. Anything I can get you? I'll send that nice Sgt Mark with a list of things we can provide for you."

"Oh! And if you don't feel up to it after lunch don't bother with the rest of the day either."

Grammer! Grammer?

You didn't go to Grammer school did you Bob? Probably not, otherwise you'd be able to spell the bloody word!

(I did that out of pity for you M8 - didn't want the North of the Borderers to diss you, so did it for you).

WOTAMATE!!!!

Now - if you're gonna bait the Big Bad Lad up there in Scotlandshire, don't give 'im the opportunity to pick holes in you...

..Rab didn't bite 'cos Rab didn't see anything wrong with the spolling.....

..Why is Rab speaking in the second person mode when he's referring to himself..????
bootybandy

I don't know, I'll ask Booty..... Nah I don't know either.
RAB

Crikey Rab... ..It's catching.....
Hey Nonny

And another fine dit - rehearsals on Horse Guards Parade in 91 - everyone totally threaders - Fred Miller pipes up: 'Roses are red, violets are blue, I'm schizophrenic, and so am I’. You had to be there...

During the same rehearsal, one of the cavalry trumpeters had to repeat their call several times, each time it got progressively worse, until one of our lot was heard to comment ‘b***y hell, it was the horse playing it that time’.
RAB

....Nice to see you back Nonny...

What would horsegaurds be without the humour..

Hang on.. I'll ask Rab...
FFoglamp

Congratulations, on one of the best thread hijacks ever. How Nonny got to Horseguards from "grammer" on the site I'll never know. The schizo references are a bit loose and thin. That was a change gear without synchromesh - errr --CRUNCH !!!

Anyway, Sammy good- at-spolling txet person, good luck with the audiont. and if you cum on the site again, don't forget windscreen wipers on your monitor screen !!!

Thats good advice from me,

and from me.

Errr, elementary my dear Fortissimo! I simply put in the supertonic minor of the new key, followed by the dominant seventh (in 2nd inversion) et voila! New key established, nae probs matey.

The fool mostly, but I have been known to play pots and pans very badly. And no I'm not being self-deprecating, just truthful!
RAB

Hey Nonny wrote:

Ahem...Point of order here please...

Please continue rattling your pans, but leave the pots to the 'Rotund' section....
Hey Nonny

Well I was being half truthful Rab, flying drumsticks and things falling off stage have cause me to notch up three confirmed 'hits' though not 'kills' on brass instruments. If only it weren't true...
FFoglamp

So, in amongst the smokescreen of humour, what does H.Nonny really play ?
Hey Nonny

Well, er, since you ask, percussion actually... there, that wasn't too humorous was it?

Hey FF, look at the reply from Hey Nonny, there's a clue in there somewhere
.
FFoglamp

Ok, so I missed a big one. I must dust down the "Percussionists book of excuses" circa 1982 sometime. I'm losing my touch.

(It came in very handy against TF in the dog end days).

So, Hey nonny, we could do with our own room, and fight back against the blowers of twisted metal !
2nd Clarinet

Don't let Hornblower see your remark about TF.

He appears to be on some sort of 'Crusade' to get the Pope to Cannonise TF, PW, DDW, etc, etc and gain good publicity for them.

He's the Band Service equivalent of Max Clifford.

.
Hornblower

You can add DD, MJ and even CB to that list Bob.

I didn't think I'd seen the light, but it does at least give me a purpose!

Halleooooooyah - praise the Lord!

Halleooooooyah - praise the Lord! And Pass the Ammunition.........

Stu,

DD...... I have worked out who DD is. :smt027

MJ..... Was MJ a Clarinet/Violin (sometimes played the piano) SNCO who always wore his trousers up around his chest?

CB...... CB? I can think of one CB who was a Cpl burglar, not sure if this is the one you mean.

Give a clue that only those in the know can work out.

I'll get in touch with the man himself (Graham Hitchens) and see if he has vacancies in his God Squad, for when you retire from your present post.

A quote for you......Jeremiah (ch. XIII, v. 23)

A quote for all you others....I Corinthians (ch. XIII, v. 1)

First back with an answer to these two wins a prize.

.
FFoglamp

Hey Stuey, If you are thinking of remotely being nice to the CB I think it might be, then, I will have to excommunicate you !!!!!

The only canon you will get has two "n" s in it and will be fired up somewhere painful !!!!

Hornblower

Have you two never heard of the act of forgiveness?

These people were blind and did not know their sins - they merely did what was done unto them.

It was THE WAY.

There was no other WAY.

Start being nice to people and where will it ever end?

There was streed cred to think of - start going weak and the bad boys would be on you before you knew it, taking advantage and not cleaning their shiny bits 'n bobs.

We bad boys needed to be kept in our place - we deserved all the crap we had to take from the righteous ones.

How would we learn THE RIGHT WAY if is was not rammed down our throats at every single opportunity?

No - Bob and Ffoggy (dear chaps), we were the ones that needed to be kept in line and I forgive those righteous people for the way they operated, their Modus Operandi was clearly the BEST WAY to ensure that anyone with a bit of spirit, spunk or character did not attempt to overshadow their greatness.

Thank the Lord for egos bigger than mine - and the rank that gave it to them. They deserved me.

Without people like me, they would have been shouting at each other! And we could never have that type of anarchic behaviour now, could we?

(Bob, couldn't be arsed to look up your quotes and in any case I don't got a Bible , and CB has been thoroughly discussed (dissed! ) in these hallowed threads. Find him and you find your person.)

But be careful, Dan doesn't take kindly to open dissing in here and he may SHOUT AT YOU...
