No way!!!!! they are sent on a drying out course, then on to a retirement home where they are looked after until they shuffle away quietly ... its the least they deserve!

Yes, they do sell them off but you really wouldn't want one... They go from us to the Royal Navy Volunteer Bands and from them to the MOD Disposal agency. They ONLY go when they are beyond economical repair which means they are really really poorly and even the horn doctor can't make them better! You'll see them on eBay but they don't look good

Looks nice Billy - what is it, apart from unlacquered?
Glad you're getting back into playing too. What kept you so long?
I'm doing Bruckner's 3rd next month, had the first play through last night and it's a great blow!!

It's a beautiful hand-made German 'Migma' (Musikinstrumenten-Handwerker-Genossenschaft Markneukirchen!) Gold Brass, 5 Valve Comp by Fritz Petzold.
The horn has had one owner since new and he is a retired Scottish 'pro' player.
It's soon to be mine!

I'm doing Beethoven's Turd Symphony, but only the first movement.
The concert's not for a while, so I'm just going through the motions at the mo.
It should be a great evening. The guest of honour is Rear-Admiral Brown.

... Just what do you horny type people expect to find up that blunt end ???
You seem to spend a lot of time adjusting your fist positions, and I've never seen a rabbit or a bar of nutty appear from one yet...

I laughed so much at this joke that was sent to me by a friend in NZ, I had to put it here, as I'm not sure if anyone reads the jokes section and they're bound to read this thread (Well Rab does!)
A timeless lesson on how consultants can make a difference for an organization.
Last week, we took some friends out to a new restaurant, and noticed that the waiter who took our order carried a spoon in his shirt pocket. It seemed a little strange. Then I looked around saw that all the staff had spoons in their pockets.
When the waiter came back to serve our soup I asked, 'Why the spoon?' 'Well,' he explained, 'the restaurant's owners hired a Consulting firm to revamp all our processes. After several months of analysis, they concluded that the spoon was the most frequently dropped utensil. It represents a drop frequency of approximately 3 spoons per table per hour. If our personnel are better prepared, we can reduce the number of trips back to the Kitchen and save 15 man-hours per shift.'
As luck would have it, I dropped my spoon and he was able to replace it with his spare. 'I'll get another spoon next time I go to the kitchen instead of making an extra trip to get it right now'..... I was impressed.
I also noticed that there was a string hanging out of the waiter's fly. Looking around, I noticed that all the waiters had the same string hanging from their flies. So before he walked off, I asked the waiter, 'Excuse me, but can you tell me why you have that string right there?'
'Oh, certainly!' Then he lowered his voice. 'Not everyone is so observant. That consulting firm I mentioned also found out that we can save time in the toilets. By tying this string to the tip of "you know what", we can pull it out without touching it and eliminate the need to wash our hands, shortening the time spent in the toilet by 76.39 percent.
I asked 'After you get it out, how do you put it back?' 'Well,' he whispered, 'I don't know about the others, but I use the spoon'
