Flounders Grave?

My youngest son recently visited Ypres with his school and was asked to look into the history of one of the Soldiers Graves. Well my son chose a soldier by the name of Cubitt.

We have traced this poor young lad to a couple of doors away from our home - Northgate Street, Gt Yarmouth Norfolk; although he did marry and live in another local street for a short time.

We believe that he has injured in action in 1916 and returned to the UK before going back to serve only to be K.I.A. less than a year later. From what we have been able to trace he was probably with the East Anglain Regiment.

Is there any way of tracing this further? It's not a common name locally (not even in the phone book!)

I had the great honour on Sunday of laying a wreath for our Cadet Unit and have to admit that this young lad was foremost in my thoughts. My son has inspired me and I'd really like to find out more. Any thoughts?

Looks like he was involved in the Third Battle of Ypres which began at the end of July, quickly became a dogged struggle against determined opposition and the rapidly deteriorating weather. The campaign finally came to a close in November with the capture of Passchendaele

Not sure which site (building) has the most records/archives but it is likely to be the second, since this is the museum of the Norfolk Regiment.

Was up early waiting on m8 to show up to go Goose shooting. Funny, have no bother getting up early for that or fishing, unlike work days.

Thank you so much. This is very likely the same Soldier although there seems to be a difference in age? Could they be relatives perhaps? Hopefully not Father and son???

We were aware of the Garfield Road connection but not the actual door number so thank you so much for that. My son walks past that house everyday on his way to school.

Sorry if this thread in any way sounds morbid but its not intended to .. to explain fully my son has his heart set on joining the RM (his God Father was a RM) as soon as he can (he's 13 now!) and this particular Soldier has just ignited a certain wish to learn from him. I am going to try and arrange for him to visit to Anglian Regiment Museum in the very near future and hope that no one minds me posting if he finds out any more.

We are into Family History as well, and have a lot of ancestors who where killed in various battles. The above link is very useful.
