Falklands

Am I mistaken or is this George Tate doing the work of 2 men?
General Melchett

Wouldn't be allowed these days..... H&S and all that!
bootybandy

Definately George there JP. Could it also be Jan Dale/Geordie Renwick front left on stretcher? and perhaps Bill Sabine front right???? Town Sergeant should be able to confirm or put me straight. (No, wish I hadn't said that)
Errol

Can't be renwick,he is in step and obviously sobre
MrJpig

From the size of the neck and head I think the guy on the front/right looks like Graham smudge -go redder Smith..Trumpet/cornet player and stretcher sitter-onner (so they didn`t blow away when the helicopters landed)
townsergeant

I'll get back to you on who's at the front...

I'm on the stretcher (re: H&S) making sure that we can get down the gangway OK before we get the Argentinian wounded off!

I'm off to Wales this weekend for a mini Falklands Reunion. (Well a lot of Wales resembles the Falklands, so that's why we decided to hold it there)

So if you are passing the Brecon Beacons on Saturday night, call by and have a drink with us.

Seriously (YES!) It's Irfon Higgin's Silver Wedding Anniv on Saturday and we shall be swinging the lamp, no doubt!

He got married 2 days before we sailed on SS Canberra 1982

In 1982, I still had my Paxman Full Triple. (Left in the UK for obvious reasons!)

It was after the Falklands that I traded it in for a Model 20 (Lots of money in the bank, as there was nowhere to spend it for 3 months!)

As you know, I then moved on to the Alex 103M and had a Pusser's Nickel Silver Paxman in reserve....

I can rule out Smudge (Solo Cornet).........He wasn't there.
We did have Graham Smith (Bass Player) aka Bambi (not from Scotland)

They're all called Graham for some daft reason!

I was with George at the weekend and he thought the one on the right is Al White?

I'll have a guess at Kev 'Lard' Wilson & Sam Goldsworthy?
MrJpig

Cheers TS ...Anyone know where Graham Smith Bass player is these days? Why was his nickname Bambi?

The name 'Bambi' was given to him by Henry Monaghan.

Graham had the most smoothest (hair free) delicate legs you would ever see! :smt036

He was also known as IMMAC!

Sorry................don't know where he is....

Garry Brownrigg ended up as the DoM of the RNZ Navy Band, a position he held for quite some years.
For those that remember here's a pic taken a few years ago while I was in NZ.
From left to right, Joe Sims, Garry, Max Beare and Tommo.

Had a memorable day at Horse Guards Parade on Sunday...

Caught up with many ex-RMBs playing in the RMA Concert Band. They were playing at the post-Parade reception, held at Lancaster House.

Superb location and the Corps did us proud!

Met up with a few others who served in the Falklands in 1982: George Tate, Bugs Buster Brown, George O'Connor & Dave Bentley. Paul Coker, Brian Allen, Ian 'Jock' Milne and Trev Attwood.

(Great to swing the lamp with Gen JJ Moore!)

Some might remember Rodney Helm? (Gloucester House Officer, late 60's)

It was quite an emotional day but rather fitting that the first tribute was given by ex-RM Steve Newland MM. He made a moving tribute to who else......The RM Band

Well said Billy! It was a great tribute and shows how much the Corps respects the Band Service. Having seen the slating that the army bands got on AARSE it was good to see the Corps showing that they respected the professionalism of the guys who went down south. The SA in the instrument store still has a hangover and said the lads were done proud by all in London
