And so did we Fizzie..Our "choir master" was a brilliant guy called Terry Williams.(RIP) I called him Bandmaster for short..  .We were doing "There is Nothing Like a Dame"..(all males at that time of course), from South Pacific,... and an old mate of mine Sid Tanner had to do one of the solos...."I've got nothing to put on a clean white suit for" was his line...Sid being very much a dan saaaaaarf lad, his version was ."I ain't not got nuffin' to put on a clean white suit for", which he just couldn't master without fits of laughter all round. He was actually threatened with jail if he got it wrong on the night... 
ahhhhhhhhhh the good old days...

Ah Terry, one of a kind. Can anyone remember when, I think it was Terry, wrote a parody of "Come into the garden Maud" for Colonel Maudes final parade. The junior band broke into slow just before the dais and had to sing "Say Goodbye to Colonel Maude" as we marched past. I served with him at the dogend base and finished my time in Deal with him as one of the instrument repairers whilst I was ASO(M). He also guided me in the intricasies of stage lighting for the Sgts Mess Panto's, mind you it was the devil's own job to stop him digressing onto other things instead of repairing hooters.

ahhh I know the song well...my dad had to sing the really low part once...you know at the end..."there is absoloutly nothing like the frame of a dame..."
I can completely understand the fits of laughter!
And if he would have got it wrong, would that have meant he'd be sent to the glass house in colchester? I hope they dont threaten you with jail if you get your scales wrong...

Not Colchester Fizzie..The Detention Quarters in Deal were a big enough deterrent in those days..(not that a goody two shoes like me would ever end up there  )
..And don't worry..I think nowadays if you step out of line they just withdraw your batman service and serve your white wine at room temperature...
