your blue hair should go nicely with the uniform...i have to say. How about a nice red line down the sides .....might as well get it to match your cerries.

It`s the strange blonde bearded appendage I`m concerned about....gonna need an extra long chin strap mate !!

lol not a fantastic quality picture I must add! Bloody phone camera!
Ive read the diaries, I have a few friends who did basics last year who I met up with on my audition, they are all making it out to be horiffic!
I think I'll be ok, out of my audition group I was the fittest, although I had spent month down the gym and out jogging im preparation for it.

Not a bad start!!! Just remember to pack as sense of humour and dont take anything too personally when you get a good bo*&c*ing!!!!

aaaah! - The BFT - mile and a half as a squad first 15 mins (Deli ?) - mile and a half on your own - 9 mins. should do the trick - I think I'll have a lie down made me feel tired thinking about it

I doubt if they were as scary as my training team!!! (Swings lantern and ducks approaching dits from Deal veterans!!!!)

CSgt Yardley just did an Ultra sports even... in the Arctic Circle. One event was a full Marathon! My PTI often pops into the forum. He was a great guy then as he is now. Thrashed us to within an inch of our lives and was a very fair and good SNCO. He pushed us beyond our own limits and made us far stronger than any of us ever thought possible. You will thank them in years to come, honest!

I heard about that, he runs marathons in elite times, I heard that Sgt Sansby came 2nd in Mr Universe and had to do 3000 push ups in one go to get it!

Sharpy,
Talking about you and your training team I was chatting to one of them at FPGRM this week........ Do you want me to tell the stories?
See you in September Royal!
|
Sharpy
|
Go on Melch, Im sure I can laugh about it now!! Who was it you were talking too?
|
General Melchett
|
Norm.......
|
Sharpy
|
I take it back!! Im not going to laugh at all!!!
Top bloke and excellent PW but bloody scary!! Ive seen Bootnecks quiver at the mere mention of his name!! Tell him I say hello if you see him again tho! Ask him about a certain ex female horn player named Jenny Spink and what she was like down the ranges!!!!

Wasn't it Norm who did the Drum Major bit in front of JUnior Band and marched round Nelson? Something he always wanted to do and he did it. He was a nice bloke as well... not to the recruits though
|
Sharpy
|
Thats the very one!! I was in the Wing at the time. He is a top bloke, hard but fair and very good at remedial training!!!
|
General Melchett
|
He's now UPWI at FPGRM and still remembers fondly dragging Sharpy (and others) by the scruff of the neck through training! He even watched Horseguards and loved it, spending the next couple of days ditting about his Band Service past to the amazement of the other seniors.....!

3 more days of civvy life left! I thought Id be nervous by now.... should I be??

Ohhhhhhhh GOOD LUCK mate. You will enjoy every minute of it......well you will look back in 20 yrs and believe you enjoyed it. Make the most of it. This is the time you will make friends for life and aquire a new 'family' Very best of luck and I'm sure you will be fine.
Keep a diary and let us all know what happens and when. It will be of interest to many of us to read how things have changed and how things haven't. Also, you account in a diary will be a valuable memory lane for you in years to come.

Yup - Good Luck - as Aaron said, keep a diary - all us oldies would be interested how things have changed, or not as the case maybe -

Good luck,
Keep your eyes and ears open and your mouth shut. Follow what the training team tell you implicitly and remember that you have two ears, but only one mouth - use them in that order and you won't go far wrong.
Oh, and pain is only temporary!

And when you go ashore, make sure you have 30p for the phone, a clean hanky, a piece of string and wear a clean pair of underpants!
(I never did understand why you had to carry a piece of string?)

Best of luck sunshine! Regular posts on the pain (and pleasure, if any) will:
(a) Be an invaluable guide to all those who follow you
(b) Be a trip down memory lane for those who have suffered before
(c) Give us all a laugh!
Keep yer chin up and remember if it gets tough, it's only 15 weeks!

Ohhh yes! The Cheese Beano was the ultimate in lashing yourself up (Cheese on toast with beans on top) with some red and brown sauce
I still have them now.
As a trained rank it was nipping down to Alf's Cafe for a cheese roll whilst the mega breakfast was cooked for you.
You forgot the 9 o'clockers at Chatham Ffoggers! Stuff of legend! By they were good. We all had the HGE mugs out of out fighting order for the coffee or tea!

I always remember watching the FA Cup Final in 1972/73 in Gloucester House TV Room in the comfortable red leatherette chairs, and after getting a delivery of food from the NAAFI that normally consisted of one of the following; Egg and salad cream roll, Ham and Tomato roll, Cheese and pickle roll or some other concoction, before you even took a bite out of said roll, some wag would always shout.................Save us yer end. (Normally this would eminate from one Town Sergeant!!! gggrrrr) Happy days.......
