Daniel, I personally, and I'm sure others will follow, have seen bagpipes used in Bandy "performances" on many occasions. Not necessarily on parade, but several sets of pipes have mysteriously "disappeared" during Tatoo's etc. A wonderful instrument which I'm sure every DofM would give their right arm for on certain occasions, and most Bandies have nearly given their lives to get rid of, on "other" occasions.... Oh dear, I really mustn't say any more here... It's a loyalty thingy..

Danial - many years ago the Corps had it's own Aberdeen saxaphone band, '42 Commando Pipe band' which a number bugler's were members of. This band is no longer in exsistance, as far as I know - correct me if i'm wrong Admin. Royal in a skirt ??

Just one other Daniel, The Gurkha's still are the only unit left to have a Military Band and Pipe Band.
And before anyone starts, I'm an enthusiast not a spotter!!!

Love the comic ! I'm a bit two-faced, my mum was born Engliah (Victory wing of the old hospital at Portsmonth Naval) while my father is decended from Scotland. The original Lockhart was a Knight under King Robert the Bruce, they digressed and became lawyers later, and now some have become American! I took up the pipes last year, not the instrument to start with, thinking I should have picked up the sticks instead !

My father is George Lockhart from West Virginia, where I was also born. The original Lockhart was Symon Locard which was changed to Lockhart after he brought the Bruce's heart back to Scotland. 27 generations between myself and Sir Symon

I seem to remember two individuals of the RMB that played the Aberdeen Saxophone. Ian Quirke, who was a Sgt Percussionist and also another individual, whose name escapes me at present, but he did play at the Yacht de-commissioning ceremony in Portsmouth a few years ago. I'm sure someone will remember his name.

Dad was born on a farm halfway from Huntington and Wayne. I was born in Huntington and after I was 2 months old, dad went back into the USAF and I never lived there again, though I have visited often. I'm a military brat, lived in Bermuda where my mum grew up and as far west as Okinawa as a kid. When I went in I was deployed in Thailand and as far east as Italy. Spent 6 months in RAF Lakenheath, 2 yrs in Zweibrucken, Germany.

I was interested in your roots because I have interests in Marlinton and Lewisburg, well not so much Lewisburg now, and spend some time WV each year

Daniel..If you look in the Dits section of the Forum, under Lanimer Day, you will see a story from Dan Archer regarding our dearly departed mate George Coad, who was a bugler, and a very fine piper as well. He put this to good use one night in the presence of us all in Scotland Band...AND a huge selection of players from the best known Pipe Bands in Scotland. As usual, when George had "spoken", the room was filled with dropped jaws and disbelieving eyes....An irreplacable character..RIP
