any idea about this event or music?

In the mid 70's, while stationed with the Pacific Fleet Band at Pearl Harbor, our asst bandmaster played an audio tape of a massed Royal Marine Band event. What he had listed was a medley of Alford marches that started out with STANDARD OF ST GEORGE and then sequed into many more. After that piece, the massed bands went into CAVALRY OF THE STEPPES followed by a 7-beat massed drum roll. There was next a brass fanfare and a short speech introducing Vivian Dunn who then conducted your National Anthem.

Does the above ring a bell with anyone? I used to have that tape but over the years it stretched and warped.

Not a clue Shell. It sounds like one of the many Alford Medleys that have been arranged over the years but I don't have a clue which gig it could be.

It sounds like an extract from the 1968 Royal Tornament music, Fred's last hurrah. Kuttenstuck wrote the march!!!!

I am not sure he "wrote" the march as it looked more like a "cut and paste job". I did the same while I was the librarian with the PacFltBand. Made copies of the marches needed and snip snip snip...instant arrangement.

Still wish I had that tape...it was fun to listen to. Cavalry of the Steppes became one of my favorites after that tape.
