Another "Dogend" signs in...Hiya fellas,
It's about time I signed in and caught up with some of the fading memories. The old sweats will remember me as "Barney" or "Hat-stand, Bandstand or even Fungus".
In my DogEnd days there were two Barney's in the band me on Trombone and Phil Barnard the reprobate on Oboe, I say that just so I don't take the credit for some of Phils crazy antics!! I think I’ll have enough trouble justifying my own.
I joined as part of 2/76 troop May 3rd 1976. This massive intake consisted of just 3 of us and at the end of the training only I survived. After Training I then went to Fleet Band (then at Chatham) under the direction of the immensely talented Capt Terry Freestone and played in both Port and Starboard bands for about 4 years. I then moved to the Staff Band at Deal until my departure in October 1986.
It’s hard to believe that 21 years have now passed since leaving but it’s also amazing how often it is that I hear about or come across some very familiar names .
I’m looking forward to catching up and refreshing some of those old memories.

Welcome Barney!
Stu here (no not Sheldon!) to greet you into the fold. Everyone else appears to have legged it down to Pompey for some strange reason.
I don't have long at the mo - a beer is waiting downstairs - so I'll pop in again tomorrow to maybe add to the posts.

Hey it’s great to hear from you all,
I’m still gallivanting around Europe with the mortgage paying job and out playing most weekends so I can’t say that I will be as frequent on this forum as I would like. It sounds to me like there will be a few sore heads after the reunion, I must make the effort to get down there one year. Unfortunately I was out playing in Coventry this weekend but at least the singer was more attractive than you guys!!

Now I have to be careful as I have yet to work out who is who with these forum names......but would I be right in saying that you once had a hand painted Blue Morris Minor? Tastefully customised to turn the heads of any unsuspecting female talent

Hiya Barney....
I remember you well........lots of trips together.
Long time no see, I left Fleet Band in '81 for the outside world.
Great to see you on this forum,
Read the dits and Coffee Boat threads to work out who is who.
And go to 'Post your mugs shots' thread and put a recent piccy of yourself on to it.
See if you are as grey and wrinkled as the rest of us.
Ex Dogends are slowly taking it over...Hey Admin, how about re-naming it; 'The Official Dogend Discussion and Reunion Site'

Well bugger me, Dusty Miller. Hello mate it's been a while. As for the wedding pics can you believe it's 27 years married next month....frightenin’. Bert Sadly died some years ago but Betty who has had Alzheimer’s for the last 17 years is still going but is very frail and is very much out of it. Bloody awful disease.
Carol-Anne says hi.
...are you still giggin’?

Andy, me old mucker. How long since I last saw you? (that sounds romantic and will get some feedback from the guys). The last I heard was that you were a Game Keeper up in Scotland is that still the case? How’s Teresa?
I have got a shocking memory but I do have some great memories from the early days travelling to work in your Morris Minor.
I left the mob in '86 but I’m still very much playing and making a nuisance of myself. I’m the MD of an amateur Big Band Band called “Page 3”, I play lead in a band run by the BBC Big Band Trumpeter Nigel Carter, I have a regular chairs with “The Opus One Big Band” and “The George Thorby Big Band” and I also run a 5 trombone + Rhythm Jazz setup called “Bones&Co” which is great fun and has some awesome jazz bone players mostly ex services. On top of all of that I have my regular job plus the freelance work.
How much longer before retirement and I can focus on my music again!!
...as for farting in the Bathroom......I'm okay so long as I cough loudly. Wait a minute, when I cough I fart any way....hmmm

Hi there Ernie.
Glad to see you're keeping yourself busy.
Yes! I'm still gigging with my own band -Moonlight - and a few other things like shows and brass bands. I've just finished with the local big band so am available if you need a dep for any of your bands.
Sorry to hear about Bert and the situation with Betty. When you next see her please mention I was asking after her.
27 years!!! you'd have got less for murder! I'm glad you are both together and happy. It's certainly better than my present situation, but it is getting a whole lot better.
If you're every down the west country you'll have to pop in.

Hey Dusty - I used to be every down the west country...
Now I'm every in the Midlands (every day actually).
Well - nearly every day. Sometimes I go a bit further afield, like for instance I was in Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago, so I suppose you could say that I go away every now and then....
