Albert Elms

Albert passed away last week, his funeral will be held in St Anne's Church HMNB Portsmouth at 1PM Fri 23 Oct. Albert served in the Corps 1934-1949 and wrote Battle of Trafalgar, Man in a Suitcase, The Champions and Ivanhoe. He also created the incidental music for 14 of the 17 episodes of The Prisoner starring Patrick McGoohan. He wrote several marches that are timeless and now RM Standards. A full Obit will appear in the next edition of the Blue Band Magazine...
If anyone has any memories of Albert they are more than welcome to put them in here. An obit is going to be placed in the Times

And the Matelots stood behind us, firing blanks, when then the little lights flashed on the balcony.

We also played another of Albert's marches on that occasion.

Albert paid a visit to Eastney Barracks in the late 70's and I had the honour of being the first to play his euphonium solo which he called Euphomania.

I have never heard it performed since, maybe after hearing me play it he probably threw it in the trash can!!!

As mentioned in other posts, he wrote some very memerable music.

It was a pleasure to meet and talk with him.

Rest in peace Albert.

I can remember rehearsing Battle of Trafalgar all week in the concert hall ready for the RT with Col Nevelle in charge when Albert Elms first wrote it, going over and over it whilst he made alterations, But what a great piece and composer he was.
RIP Albert Elms
