How many times have you heard that phrase?

I'm sure Jumpy won't mind me telling you this to kick off a thread...

Yesterday I got a phone call from the Jumpiggy one, who promptly told me he was fishing in Newcastle and had been standing next to a geezer with whom he struck up a convermasation.

This other person said that he'd joined the police in Greater Manchester, but transferred to Kent Constabulary. (Poetic licence in the following conversation)

Jumpig "Oh really? Whereabouts?"

Fishing copper "Deal"

"I used to live in Deal (Married a local girl actually)"

"What did you do?"

"Royal Marines Band"

"SO WAS I!"

"Small world... what band were you in?"

"Chatham - swapped drafts with Stu Thorn"

"I went to Chatham too, straight out of training - you'd gone by then"

Soooo, who is it then - any ideas? Who was the anon. fishing copper?

The last time I spoke to Steve he was a village bobby in a quiet East Kent Village called Street, I think. He was also into renovating old cars, I think he was on a Merc at that time. Good man. The next time you or anyone see him ask him about Goldies stag do in Chatham. On second thoughts, perhaps not.....

If he manages to get on here he can post it as his first dit. He has retired from the Police and does driving work now.

We had a great day chatting about all the folk we knew even though we hadn't actually worked in a band together.

At one point in the proceedings, a press photographer covering the event (Police UK beach fishing championships) came along and asked for a picture of THE fish I had caught. When he asked my name, Steve, who had wandered over to my peg answered " BILLY NO MATES" ...the photographer replied in a broad Geordie accent " How do yo spell Nurmates ?? WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH Steve and I were in bits!!

36 teams .......we came 6th if you were wondering...which I knew you weren't!!

Met another ex bandy over Xmas. Playing carols with the local Brass Band in a small church at Reay, I was sat next to a fine trobmonerist who joined in '97 but left after a couple of years on medical grounds.

He said he would sign up here but as he hasn't yet you might know him and nag him a bit more.

He currently lives in the London area and goes by the name of Don Logie....anyone know him??

How strange,
Our secretary leaves today and we have a temp in. The temp got talking to the boss and mentioned that she used to live in Deal and spent some time in Rosyth as well, she was married to ex Bandmaster Gerry Long! Small world in'it?
