Hi!
Just had a look in the HMS Seahawk Volunteer Band site, only to find it full of damned foreigners! Some of them at first appeared to be extracting the wee-wee from yours truly (Changing march titles to include the word Bob!) so I thought I would join up and introduce myself.
As you have guessed my name is Bob and I carry the Bass Trombone (and occasionally Eb Bass) in the band at RNAS Culdrose. I say 'carry' as some of you more gifted musicians out there may object if I said 'play'! You can usually pick me out of the crowd as, despite being in a Naval band for 16 years I have always worn an RAF uniform! Is this a record? (I also have a 12" black plastic disk with a small hole in the middle. Is that a record too?)
I left the RAF in 1990 having played for 3 years in the volunteer band at RAF Kinloss and on starting work at Culdrose I joined the band here, as well as a local village brass band. I therefore didn't have many free evenings to spend at home with the wife Gillian, so, in a case of 'if you can't beat them join them' she had cornet lessons (from Nick Chapman, no less!) and now is a staunch member of the band too (and also Bandy's unofficial PA).
We are both grizzled veterans of Cologne trips. I have done 8, 5 of them carrying a Bass! Is that butch or what?! Looking forward to going again in February.
Greetings to all the other Volunteers out there.
See you in the counter-march!
Bob

At last! A Seahwaker arrives and about time.
Welcome Bob and we really don't mind what rigs you wear. You'll have to get some ofthe others in here to give you a hand with the cleaning, the dust has accumilated a bit due to the lights being off for so long. Don't be a stranger around here (we already have enough strange ones!)

Naaaah! Runways are easy - they are very long, quite wide and don't move. Now, putting a Merlin down on the back of a Type 23 Frigate in a sea state 4 is tricky! I crashed 3 times yesterday before getting all the wheels on the deck. I will have to practice a bit more.
By the way, all you serving members out there - If you are ever in a chopper over Baghdad and the pilot gets taken out by a sniper, get Lumpy Nolan to take over the controls rather then Dave Prentice. Although he has brilliant hand-eye coordination with a drumkit, give him a cyclic and a collective and he is buggered!
At least with Lumpy in charge you should be able to limp away from the crash!

Lo Bob, welcome to the forum. Sorry about squatting in Seahawk chat room, but it was a nice empty place to have the odd rave, and some illicit binge posting. Next time I venture near, I'll knock first.
