Hey all, I want to join the band but have some questions

I'm short sighted, so what are the rules on this in the band? I want to get my eyes lasered anyway, but want to know whether I should get it done before I even apply. Also I read somewhere that only certain laser procedures are allowed but can't find where, does anyone know about this?

Also, at the moment I play guitar and piano but want to learn violin and sax for the band. If I start learning these two now, should I audition on them even though I won't be as good as I am on guitar/piano?

Finally, I've never had any lessons on any instruments, I've just played for fun. Will studying music so intensely take out any of the fun? Or make it more fun?

I am going to see the careers guy but he broke his leg first time I went and now he is on leave so I have to wait until next week.

Hey Todd, have you ever played in a band before?? done any marching??  Why don't you come down to HMS Heron volunteer band for a rehearsal at Yeovilton. It might give you an idea of band life. I'm not saying we're the same as the Royal Marines Bands by any means... (fellas I'm trying to be helpful here, please take this post the way I'm intending it) we're all amateurs who have 9-5 day jobs, civvy or military but we do take our playing quite seriously, and our marching!!! Our conductor is a full time RM Bandsman and we have 3 ex RMB's within our band so plenty of tips on offer!

PM me if you want any more info. It's a bit of a trek from Bristol, but I've done it OK for the last 18 months! It's worth it.

We'll be doing a gig on the flight deck of HMS something or another at Avonmouth docks in September if you want to come and watch. Our boss is also a sax player so he might give you a few free lessons if you ask nicely!!

Zed

If I have a musical moment, please let me know by putting your name on the back of a £5 or £20 note and noting the time, place it into an envelope and send it to me at the usual address or care of Peter Pan, Neverland...
