Phyllis Ada Mettyear
It is with sadness that I report the death of Phyllis Ada Mettyear who was in her 90th year and widow of Kenneth Mettyear MBE, former Professor of Clarinet at the Royal Marines School of Music. A lifelong admirer of the quality and excellence of their music, she was a personal champion for members of the Royal Marines Band Service past and present. Her memory of people and events involving the Band Service, and Royal Naval School of Music in particular, was exceptional. She died peacefully at the Walmer home of former WO1 Bandmaster Clive Close and his wife Angela for whose kindness, patience and compassion no words of gratitude can be adequate. Cremation at Barham, Kent, in the presence of several former members of the RM Band Service has taken place.
Obit by: Lt Col Graham Hoskins MVO OBE ARAM (RM Rtd)
